Epic Pork Skins

(G. Andrew Duthie) #1

Just found these at a local roadside market:

Sea Salt and Pepper

and

BBQ

I’d had the Epic brand bacon chunks at Whole Foods, but didn’t know they made pork rinds.

The texture is light and airy, with a great crunch, and unlike some that I’ve tried, aren’t dry at all.

The seasonings are also very nicely done. I’m guessing that the BBQ may have some small amount of sugar in the “Spices” ingredient, but it is probably a very small amount (they list 1g of carb per serving).

They also have a Maple Bacon flavor, but as you can guess, that lists a couple of different sugars in the ingredients.

They’re definitely not as cheap as the brand I get at Walmart, so likely to only be an occasional treat, but if you’re looking for a “kicked up” pork rind snack, this is a good one to try.

Would love to hear about anyone else’s favorite pork rind brands. I’m in the states, BTW, but never hurts to hear about stuff elsewhere…in case I need my fix while traveling.

We have a great brand here in Australia, but it’s not everywhere. Supreme Quality Foods - Oink Credible Pork Crackling, comes in Original and Chili - less than 1g carbs per 100g, and it’s the lightest, puffiest pork crackle I’ve ever had - not chewy at all.

Atlanta area has Mutt & Jeffs…somewhat hard to find though, usually in local owned businesses and liquor stores. The salt & vinegar is delish!

Good mention, Sweetcheeks. Salt & Vinegar is my favorite potato chip, so will have to search those out.
