Energy levels not consistant

(LeeAnn Brooks) #1

I don’t want to sound like I’m complaining because for the most part this Keto WOE is really starting to click for me.
I thought I was almost fat adapted, as I’m naturally going longer periods with less hunger, I’m sleeping better, my endurance for working out is really starting to come back and even increase.
But (why is there always a but?) my energy levels arent consistent from day to day. Some days they are good to even great. Actually, this is most days. But then the heavy, sluggishness hits me again for a random day. It’s certainly not as bad as it was early on, but it’s a definate decrease from the new normal. It’s the difference between feeling like I could go out and get in a good run vs feeling like maybe hunkering down with the tv remote sounds better.

I’m staying on top of my electrolytes.

I guess I’m just hoping someone will tell me that will go away once I’m completely fat adapted.

Is it possible it’s connected to your monthly cycle rather than keto? Us women do have more ups and downs throughout the month because of our hormones and I know it has an impact on me.

I’m experiencing this too and am frustrated with it too ; )

I’m wondering whether it has to do with food intolerances in my case.

When I do extended fasts (3 weeks or so) I have consistently high energy levels.

I have IBS, which despite years of trying and testing, I’ve never been able to pinpoint the cause of.

All I know is it completely goes away during fasting, so I’m pretty sure it’s food related SOMEHOW.

During Keto, I’m not having the same energy levels as in fasting consistently and while my IBS symptoms are improved, they are certainly not gone, like in fasting.

I’m hoping to reduce my dairy intake a bit, to see if that helps.

Could it be that some days you eat some food group (like dairy) more heavily than on others?

And I agree with Allie that hormones will also be a very likely culprit, for part of the month.

I go through the same thing. I’m in my 6th week.

(LeeAnn Brooks) #5

It is that time of the month. But I didn’t have these energy swings pre-Keto associated with my period.
This is the heaviness/sluggishness I had a lot in my first few weeks. Except now I get maybe once a week or every 5 days or so, whereas the rest of the time I feel pretty darn good.
Mostly it’s the swing that makes it so weird.

Keto does rebalance hormones so it’s likely part of that process

I’m the same. I’m well into my 4th week (although I was significantly reducing carbs before I started Ketogenic) of eating Keto and in general my energy has steadied so that on most days I feel vibrant. My workouts are also regaining their lost power of the first weeks and I’m sleeping very well. But peppered through the week are times when my legs ache and I am tired/unmotivated. It’s in the minority of time but it’s still there so I assumed it was because I’m not yet far adapted, or fully so.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #8

Could it possibly be the result of a bit too much protein? Of perhaps from hidden carbs? Try and track what you’re eating, and see if you notice a pattern.

You say that they are random days. But what are you eating on those days and at what time during the day?

Is it hot outside or hotter on those days?

Heat can have an enormous effect on the ketosis energy levels. Especially if you drink at the wrong time during the day. The bodies blood vessels expand because of the heat, and then the ketosis has the internal body heat high and then you drink water. This kills your energy if you drink too much. It creates steam, lowers the bodies heat, and further expands the blood vessels, making you feel sluggish.

Try to see if your random days are connected to temperature or what you ate and when. There are certain things that the body can’t handle well on a hot day, also creating sluggish energy. Or eating in the sun instead of the shade. —- there are many heat related variables when you get deep into ketosis and good energy levels.

If you want to talk about specifics and try to find the culprit, I’d be glad to.

These were my macros yesterday. I’m a little lower on calories than I normally eat, but that was because I was exhausted and just didn’t feel like eating as much.

(LeeAnn Brooks) #11

And carbs are in total, not net, so I was under the 20g net carbs.

(LeeAnn Brooks) #12

This is what I ate:
Morning: ZipFizz & magnesium citrate
Lunch (1pm): 2 hard boiled eggs with lots of salt
2 oz Irish Cheddar
8 double stuffed garlic jalapeño queen olives
14 grams marcona almonds

Dinner (8pm)
Keto Chicken curry stew (Diet Doctor recipe)
8oz u sweetened vanilla almond milk
1 square 92% dark chocolate
1/2 tablespoon no sugar added peanut butter
Coffee w/ 1 tbls cocoa butter & 1tbls MCT oil

I attempted the run late afternoon before dinner. I always try to run fasted.

(LeeAnn Brooks) #13

And I was popping pink rock salt all day because I knew it was hot out and I was going to run.

(LeeAnn Brooks) #14

I should clarify though that I knew my energy levels were off as soon as I woke up. It was a sluggish feeling just getting out of bed. But I had a good nights sleep, so it wasn’t that. It was a heaviness that went to the muscles.

W Zipfizz
I was just at Costco
I already knew about it. Had it many years ago
Knew about the sucrolose and xylitol

Any ways, the sample booth was there
I had no intention of getting any

The rep or drug pusher / I mean saleswoman :joy:
She was so good!

B4 I knew it. I was about 15 deep in samples of this concoction
Like a home brew tasting event many years ago or something

Safe to say, it was really good!
All the flavors. Yummy
Or maybe it was just the b12 kicking in too, I was jumping and skipping away
W beer, it was staggering away. Yikes haha

My point.
I Don’t Know :man_shrugging:

I did talk KETO too
Safe to say …I did say and mention artificial sweeteners are ok for some
Trust…I had my fair share in 10 minutes

This could also be a knock on effect from the day before, it is with me when it happens, or simply not enough sleep so not enough recovery time.

(LeeAnn Brooks) #17

I slept pretty solid that I can tell.
And this was a heavy feeling all the way to my muscles.

I woke up feeling that way and it lingered all day long. I felt fine the next day and today I feel good too, so I’m hoping it was a one time thing.
