Endangered Species 88% chocolate

#1

I have a bunch of this for my sweet tooth emergencies and as I broke into one just now I noticed the FIRST ingredient is chocolate liquor and the second is cane sugar. Somehow, that doesn’t seem very keto-friendly to me. Anyone else have or eat this stuff?

I like it, but those ingredients bother me. Can I keep indulging or should I find a new dark chocolate?

What did you expect chocolate ingredients to be? What’s the problem with those ingredients?

It is one of the best dark chocolate available! I believe it ranked #2 on the list. It’s delicious and satisfying! IMHO

I make sweet concoctions from scratch using artificial sweeteners and cacao. Just Google and you’ll find lots of Paleo chocolate recipes. My favorite is no bake chocolate cheesecake.

I didn’t expect the FIRST ingredient to be chocolate liquor.

Chocolate liquor is comprised of about half cocoa butter and half cocoa solids (cocoa solids are what remains when the bean is ground and the cocoa butter is removed). Chocolate liquor is also called unsweetened baking chocolate. Chocolate liqueur, on the other hand, does contain alcohol.

Lol! I was a step behind you!

It’s all about your portions.

Well duh, I thought it was liqueur they were referring to and just spelling it differently. Glad it’s a totally different animal. Thanks for clarifying!

The liqueur sounds yummy, too! I’m sure it has more sugar than our precious chocolate bars! They sell the most delicious dark chocolate brandy liqueur chocolates at Trader Joe’s during Christmas—my German memories kick in! Yes, I’m a chocoholic!

This is my go to dark chocolate brand too. I love most everything made by Endangered Species. I stick to the plain 88%, but I sure wish some of those 72% varieties came in 88%. Like the espresso bean one. Or the chocolate mint one. Or the sea salt and almond one. Cause I’m too lazy to melt down an 88% bar and add ingredients manually!
