Don’t want to get prematurely excited, but yes, I’m kind of excited… I just hit the 3 week mark, have been plateaued for 2 weeks, and think I MAY be fat adapted… I’m not hungry, at all… it’s 4:00pm here and I’ve had one coffee w/ 2T heavy cream… probably will have to force feed soon so my body doesn’t think we’re in calorie restriction mode. AND I’ve finally dropped a pound below my initial water weight loss… woohoo! (I know the scale lies, but it does need to budge from where I’ve gotten it to since I’m not an NFL lineman… regardless of how much fat is being replaced by lean mass) Sharing for those who start & stall - KCKO - good days ahead!
Encouragement - I MAY be Fat Adapted!
You do not have to force feed yourself anything. If you aren’t hungry, let it lead naturally into a fast - there is such a thing as “fat fasts” so the HWC is probably fine in limited amounts.
Listen to your body, and don’t force yourself to eat! You will get hungry eventually, no worries.
EDIT: Also congrats! Welcome to the world of the fat adapted! It’s wonderful and intails all sorts of benefits and joys!
Thanks guys!!! Awesome, CONGRATS @Peter!!! @siobhan I’m a bit wary of cutting calories a lot right now as I adjust, I did a 3 day fast my first week and think it may have been too soon… I feel like I might need to give it another week or so (that would be the 1 month point and 1 week fat adapted) …what do you think?
I do not really ever suggest cutting calories, however metabolically your body reacts differently to fasting (no food, maybe some fat which has minimum insulin response) than to calorie restricting.
Hence, if you don’t feel hungry - don’t eat. It is your body telling you you don’t really need food right now. That could result in IF (intermittent fasting, where you get all your calories in a “time window”), or extended fasting.
… THAT said, if you don’t feel comfortable with it, go ahead and eat. But the great thing about keto is that hunger signals are clear (but not overpoweringly so), and so are “not hungry” signals.
Plus, if you ever don’t feel well on a fast you can always just eat.
So basically… do what you are comfortable with.
I was just letting you know in case you weren’t aware that fasting is an option if you want to choose it.
You are absolutely awesome, thank you so much for taking the time to help me along!
No problem at all! Keto has improved my life quite a lot, and I love to share that experience and knowledge with others! It is what I love so much about this forum!
And because I haven’t said it enough… congrats!!!
I have felt that way too. Two nights ago, pork shoulder steak fried in butter, then 16 hours later chicken and beef with Chinese vegatables with oily sauce, hold the rice followed by 10 mi bike ride. Then today…Hit the weights fasted and no food until 6pm… broke it at a friend’s house for family visit. I was dreading the pizza but did good and ate mostly toppings. And before hand had mct oil and cinnamon. Ketone blood levels of over 2.0 past two days. Also I can feel it in my mouth, the tingle of ketone breath… haha
Congrats Alison! This thread is like a little carrot (um, coconut) for me. I’m 2.5 weeks in, producing ketones, and waiting for the magic to happen, not with baited breath because II know it might still be awhile, but I’m scanning the horizon for signs of fat adaption. I hope you’ll write a follow-up post on what’s what.
