Okay, I need some help. I fast regularly generally 3-4 days per week. After my fast I refeed very well. And… u immediately return to my prefast weight within a few days. I have 25-30 pounds to lose. I actually gain an inch in my hips and waist. I feed primarily on cheese, sour cream, and nuts. Don’t ask me why could be because I haven’t been able to eat these in years and now suddenly I can. But I am thinking I can’t, thinking they lead to the rapid fluctuations in weight. So what do I replace them with? I get the meat and vegetables part (I was aip 26 months prior to keto) but what can replace the highly satisfying salty nuts and creamy cheese?
Eliminating dairy and nuts suggestions
Check the carb intake on nuts. They are quite different depending on the nuts. Macadamia are pretty low, so if you’re eating other nut’s you may be getting quite a bit of carbs. Avocados are very satiating and help to stave off other cravings. I have read several times that if you’re trying to lose weight milk products other than raw milk should be avoided. Maybe instead of doing a milk product every day you make it something you do once a week.
I think another aspect to Keto and losing weight is to continue to keep learning. The more I learn the more I tweak the diet to make more sense for me as an individual. There are some great videos and podcasts and blogs that would be probably helpful in figuring out ways to substitute out things you don’t think I working for you with better things.

Good luck.
Completely agree. Pecans, then Macadamias are the lowest. Cashews and pistachios I consider carbs. DietDoctor.com has a great listing of carb content
I would love to know the answer in general. I have the same problem. I do not eat pork so bacon not an option
Do you eat red meat? Dr. Benjamin Bikman has some very interesting data supporting eating plenty of nutrient dense meat while In Keto has a completely different and promising effect on metabolism.

It’s long but worth a listen.
He also talks about protein in the podcast Boundless Health March 26 episode.
I eat plenty of beef, chicken, some turkey as cold cuts and lamb every once in a while if there is nothing else. Small amounts of salmon and lots of eggs. I simply enjoy cheese and will eat that over anything else. This week I have not eaten as much because we ran out and I noticed that I feel a little thinner
Great input thank you. On the nuts I only eat macadamia and pecans. I did go a little crazy ( within reason ) with cashews at first because I hadn’t been able to eat a cashew in almost 10 years. So reintroducing them was awesome for my mental health as is the dairy. I haven’t had dairy in at least 10 years. My diet was very restricted for a very long time, there are still foods I am allergic to but if I’m not afraid of dying from it I have reintroduced it with the exception of eggs, not afraid of dying just haven’t tried yet, lol. I tend to go for cream cheese, sour cream, liverwurst (hate liver but want the nutrients), salami, and pork or beef on feeding days. But my dairy and nut consumption is probably not helping. I think I’ll cut out the nuts and see how that goes. Then cut out dairy and see what that does. I keep the nuts to half a cup. Trust me I have tried 1/4 but I end up going back for more. Pretty sure I am dealing with inflammation. This week I gained 9 pounds in 6 days. Lol
I too went cheese crazy since starting keto. I eventually had to cut it out to break a lengthy stall (all dairy). I stopped eating nuts due to not being satisfied with tiny amounts.
Since giving up dairy I find myself eating two meals a day - for the first I always have eggs and some kind of meat. Today it was leftover steak. I add spices to ramp up flavour and sometimes hot sauce.
Dinner is always a protein (meat, fish, poultry) with a veg and some butter or oil drizzled on top. I’ve been having butter (my only dairy allowance) in my coffee to help increase fat and calories. It’s pretty satisfying.
Funny, since giving up dairy I have no trouble eating less than 20g carbs. Most of my carbs were dairy.
Sometimes if I feel snacky, I have a bit of salt. It helps immensely. Or I might have a pepperoni stick for the extra fat and salt.
I was not trying to cut out dairy or nuts but due to various unrelated reasons I have been eating differently this week.
While I still eat nuts I have limited it to walnuts and pecans and pine nuts, no macadamias and no peanut butter at all (usually have at least two tablespoons or more per day).
I have been eating real avocados instead of wholly guacamole.
I have severly limited dairy to HWC in coffee x2 per day and the occassional sprinkle of mozzerlla in eggs. Usually I can have 4 - 6 ozs of cheese per day easily.
I have been snacking on carbs a little more than usual such as fruit and crackers and chocolate but not enough to sabatoge my diet. I have lost a couple of ounces and am at the lower end of my range but I doubt it is real weight loss. I am curious as to where this will lead. In my case I do not think I need to eliminate dairy completely but I really do seem to eat too much
