Don’t forget to count what you are getting from your food in those totals. Someone who eats a lot of avocados, for example, would need less added potassium. Same for sodium. Electrolyte balance is important for intercellular-extracellular flow.
Oh also, potassium is not required to be on nutrition lablels (in the US, yet) although some foods have it optionally. So if you are counting from labels, you are likely not getting an accurate total.
Calcium should be on the list as well.
And if you do any fasting, particularly extended fasts, you may need to increase electrolytes above your usual levels.
I tend to forget this, which can result in nighttime cramps, especially in my lower legs.
There’s a similar relationship between calcium and magnesium as there is between sodium and potassium. Too much of one can act like to too little of the other.
