Effect of diet and sodium intake on serum uric acid

#1

Medium and high sodium intake reduce serum uric acid more than low sodium intake. This could be significant for me because I notice when I eat more than a certain amount of protein my toes/feet get achy. I’ve been increasing my sodium intake the last few days so I’m going to experiment with eating higher protein to see if the higher sodium mitigates the aches.

Thanks for sharing this. My uric acid occasionally tests just outside the upper range for the lab my dr. uses. I LOVE salt/sodium, so I will just enjoy my salt and carry on knowing more is even better for me.

So I’ve been taking in more sodium since learning about all its benefits and here’s what I’ve experienced so far:

  1. Water retention (only a little)
  2. More frequent and easy to pass BMs
  3. No more pain in feet when eating too much protein
  4. Increased energy
