Eating Out - Solutions

(Cancer Fighting Ketovore :)) #1

So, before I went Keto I was a really big pasta fan. At home I will use Shiritake (sp?) Noodles. However, I can’t do that when I’m eating out.

One of my favorite places to eat was (and is) Olive Garden. My favorite dish is the “Steak Gorgonzola Alfredo”.
However, it of course has pasta… :frowning:

I know that the alfredo sauce will still have some carbs, but I have come up with a decent solution. I don’t have any actual concrete numbers, but this is my much more Keto-friendly solution:
replace the pasta noodles with broccoli!

that looks so good!

It is! I’ve found that especially with cheese/alfredo based sauces you can easily sub in broccoli in place of the pasta, and the dish is yummy.

I’ve been trying hard to be creative with meals when eating out, especially when I’m on a vacation and can’t easily eat at home instead

While the Alfredo sauce does have some carbs, it’s still significantly lower than the tomato sauce. I’m making chicken Alfredo with zucchini noodles tommorow so I did a lot of label reading today.
7g vs 24+g

It’s just a lot harder to know the details of what’s in a restaurant’s sauce as opposed to one you buy in the store or make on your own

I agree. I usually end up ordering just the grilled chicken breast.

Why didn’t I think of that? All those times I missed out on Alfredo-y goodness, I could have been eating Alfredo-y BROCCOLI goodness!

Chicken Picatta at Olive Garden is keto-friendly

Thanks for sharing this. I have simply avoided Olive Garden completely since going Keto. Thankfully, family and friends are very accomodating, since there are plenty of other restaurants to eat at. Now, if one of my friends has a hankering for pasta, I’m all set!

The Old Spaghetti Factory has a spot on their menu (at least at the one in CA I went to) that specifically says they will substitute broccoli for the pasta. However, their nutritional info doesn’t have anything to explain how the carbs/fat/fiber are adjusted…I have emailed them about that…

Oh man - I’ve always loved their browned butter and mizithra cheese spaghetti! The next time I am close to one I will try that!

I just looked them up online and so many of their former locations have closed * sniff *

The first one I ever ate at in Salt Lake City is still there in Trolley Square but I don’t get up that way very often

Pizza Hut medium meat lovers with black olives (no crust). Just ask them to bake it in a deep dish pan or two of the little ones (That’s how they cooked mine and it was wonderful).

Wow
Interesting
Great tip
I wonder if the other pizza chains will do that
That was for pick up or delivery?

(A Tabitha Ann Swanks) #15

Just ask. That’s what I did. You might have to explain they need to bake it in the personal pan or the small pasta tins. That’s what the lady said she had to do. And with the tins you can eat it there and then take leftovers with you. I ate there. Brought the other home. It’s not guaranteed that’ll you’ll get two. Every pizza place might be different.

Or I can BYOT ( bring your own tin )
I have about 97 - 123 of those pieces tins from Polly’s n Marie Callender’s

Any who
I’m gonna try ur tip though
I will map out a Pizza Run
Then decide if I will go back to dairy/cheese. Lol

Thank again
