Ease in or cold turkey?

(Hannah) #1

Hello lovely keto people!!

So I need to back into keto life after a month of “normal” eating. I tried higher carb for 4 weeks (macros kcal:1800, protein:180, carb:135, fat:60) as part of a detox/6 week weight loss course at my gym. High carb is not agreeing with me, breakouts, bloating, fatigue, crazy strong sugar impulses (basically PMS for 3 weeks) and I want to get back into keto. Would it be easier to slowly decrease my carb intake or dive in head first? I felt best when I was eating about 10 net grams of carbs a day, but would this be too big of a change for my body?

Thanks!!

Just dive in so you can deplete your glycogen stores ASAP and begin the process of getting fat adapted.

Some say ease in to it but personally I didn’t. Felt lethargic after about 4-5 days and generally not feeling the best but a week or so later I felt better than I had in years. Way more mental focus and energy plus the motivation to get my 60 year old butt back to weights.

Yeah, as soon as something says “detox” I start wondering if they’ve ever heard of the liver, and thus why I should take any notice of them…

It would be easier to dive right back in IMO.

Cold turkey with some sea salt and a little brie.

Rip the bandaid off, dive in, cold turkey the :poop: out of carbs.
I’d been eating waaaaaaay more carbs than you before I came back to keto and didn’t even have the keto flu, felt fantastic pretty immediately. Just make sure you stay on top of your electrolytes it makes all the difference.

Because there’s no such thing…

Just dive right in…start exactly as you mean to go on

I firmly believe you need to cold turkey everything except for alcohol and benzodiazepine addictions. Not much else can kill you from withdrawal.

But seriously, there’s really no easing into keto. You’ll just make it more difficult for yourself.

Love your tiny font :joy:
What’s a better term for the cr*ppiness some folks feel when they withdraw from carbs? Personally I don’t experience it so long as I stay on top of my electrolytes.

Carb Withdrawal

Or, alternatively, Electrolyte Deficiency

Definitely go cold turkey. The sooner you quit toxins like fructose and modern wheat the better.

Some people can pull off a half baked keto, so it isn’t impossible, but you will not reap the benefits.

Lower appetite but you can eat to satiety, no cravings for carb food, better energy levels, better mental acuity, not punishing your body with insulin overdose, and oh yeah, some fat loss …

I couldn’t get out of carb land fast enough.

Sodium deficiency

No, no, no! Make sure your turkey is fully baked before eating it cold . . .

Thank you everyone!! And I’m diving in head first and not felling to bad atm :crossed_fingers: Restocked my electrolytes, bone broth etc. so feeling a lot more prepared than the first time I did it :joy: Again thank you all for all of your advice!!

(Keto butts drive me nuts) #17

Totally cold turkey!! It takes me about 3 days to start to get back into feeling good again after binging on carbs for a weekend. Kcko
