Dried coconut as snack

Dried coconut is pretty sweet - would that be a poor choice for snack? (I don’t really need to snack but sometimes when I don’t have access to keto food I eat dried coconut as an alternative - there are not many nonperishable keto snacks options for me where i live.)

Coconut is one of the lowest carb fruits so as long as your not going whole ham on it, shouldn’t be an issue if you aren’t consuming too many other carbs.

I used unsweetend coconut flakes on a fairly regular basis (almost daily). I sprinkle it on top of low sugar yogurts or protein pudding. I don’t have an insulin response to it.

If you are buying coconut in a bag etc. look at the ingredient list very carefully. It may have added sugar OR, your palate may have gotten used to a lack of sweetness and it really senses the sweetness of fructose (the kind of sugar found in fruit).

Thanks. We get whole dried coconut here which we have to open & chop ourselves. Though all natural, it’s too sweet for me but since it doesn’t get old easily I keep it around.

You bet.

Sounds like the only thing to consider is how much you consume and how many carbs that adds to your diet, otherwise, I’d argue it’s a fine addition (in moderation) to a keto diet.

I don’t snack much either but occasionally am hungry and need one. I make a sort of Keto trail mix that has a variety of nuts and pumpkin seeds and the dried coconut and also cut up bits of dried seaweed. It’s a nice salty snack and the coconut gives a nice different texture.
