Dr Berg or Dr Berry?

Holy crap, I thought you were jokin’ but then I Googled. (shudder) Confirms my gut instincts about the guy being more marketing than medicine.

It’s the constant emotional neediness and attempt to be the center of attention that irks me. I find it hard to listen to lectures comin’ at me from an eight-year-old.

When I see Snapchat-levels of make up on a woman or a lot of bulging skin on a guy (Thomas DeLauer, Dr. Shawn Baker, et. al), I play the You Tube video and walk away to do something else while I listen. If they’re valid, I’ll hear it. If not, well, I guess now I know what all the make up was trying to make up for.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #303

LOL!

I find that with Thomas Delauer, if I can see the screen, I’m not listening, so if I want to listen, I have to minimize the window or walk away from the screen.

Well, that explains why I felt like I was shitting L. Ron Hubbard out when I was making myself eat 10-12 cups of leafy greens per day at Berg’s suggestion. #WhenLRonHubbardIsStuckInYourColon

I’m waaay too visual of a person to toy with like that. (cleans up spilled coffee)

Depends on the delivery for me. The straight-shooters who speak clearly and confidently can hold me for at least ten min–SQUIRREL!–before I get distracted by someth–NUTHER SQUIRREL!–and if they’ve got graphs and data charts and visual aids, it helps to hold my atten–THREE SQUIRRELS!

I mean, Amber O’Hearn is probably great but I’m drooling into my easy chair after five minutes of that soft, monotone voice.

Like them all very much but Mercola. He gets good people to interview and then can’t resist pushing his own (often odd) agenda. I want to hear the guest, not him. I unsubscribed because he was so annoying, there’s plenty others who aren’t and I can hear better info from the same guests who aren’t being distracted by the host.

I prefer to listen and not watch also. I carry my phone around avoid the images. I love Stitcher also for the podcasts. You can download them and listen off line so I can take my walks and not use data. Great reliable app for podcasts. Most keto people have their own podcasts. YouTube I find annoying and can’t control it very well.

(Stickin' with mammoth) #308

I hadn’t even thought of that, thanks, I may attempt a couple.

For some reason, podcasts irk me. Maybe because I can’t see the person’s body language while they’re speaking, maybe because of my deadly allergy to ads. And maybe because jumping forwards and backwards through the content with just a slider to navigate by is like locating the bathroom in the dark in a strange hotel room.

This keeps me from listening to lots of podcasts.

#311

And keeps me off a lot of websites, blogs, etc

#312

That’s what ublock origin and noscript are for.

#313

Nice one.

So, I’m replying to this about a million years after it started.

I love Dr. Berry. Maybe I like the drawl, because I’m from the South (Texas, though I did live a few years in Tennessee). I like that what he says is pretty no-nonsense. He recognizes that, yes, grass fed/organic/whatever is awesome, but that when you don’t have much money, whatever conventional fatty meat is on sale is infinitely better than Doritos, etc… He might dumb it down, but I know many people (otherwise intelligent - including myself) who need that.

I haven’t done a ton of research on Dr. Berg, and some of the things that bug me are the things that have already been stated. I am not against someone selling a product, but it does taint my view of the person, sometimes. He’s also a little too hippy/new age sounding for me. That’s just my personal opinion.

I love Ivor Cummings, but I can’t listen to him for long. Reading his stuff is great.

Thomas DeLauer… I can listen to him, but he starts to get a little complicated, and I hate the shirtless/skin tight t-shirt look. Turns me off the info, big time.

I  Nina Teicholz (sic), and I loved listening to her book. I purposely had it playing, in the car, whenever my vegetarian daughter was riding along.

(Running from stupidity) #315

Because his accent is so awesome?

(Alec) #316

I do this as well. When I am driving my kids to school I put a 2KD podcast on, or other keto/fasting material. It usually provokes an interesting discussion.

(Jennifer) #317

His accent is, indeed, awesome. It’s the monotone. I realize this is my issue and nothing to do with him.

Dr Berg happen to be the first YT videos I watched and do like the fact he thinks outside the box period. A little surprised at the hate for him… He’s just another guy trying to help and make a buck. I do like Berry’s videos and respect his word. Thomas pretty boy is another non Dr selling and trying to use big words to impress… sometimes presentation is all people look for. In all honesty though I listen/watch so many that I see more related to the subject presented and not credentials… We all know people with credentials can be wrong as well.

(Carl D Black) #319

lol. But he sounds like the disclaimer guy at the end of a commercial he talks so fast.

(Carl D Black) #320

I can’t understand the negative reactions to a guy who has created a line of products and wants to sell them while at the same time making 3500+ free videos about things that are helping people (like me), FOR FREE! So, what exactly is the problem?? Anti Capitalism? He was my first stop (for whatever reason) in my new healthier life. His videos have had a huge impact on me. But yes there are others.

(Carl D Black) #321

As to Dr. Berry, I always feel like he’s going to invite me to a southern barbeque…IDK why…

(Running from stupidity) #322

Assuming you’re talking about pretend “Dr” Berg, then this thread explains it pretty clearly if you bother to read it. If you’re not talking about him, then I dunno.
