I have been keto for 5 months and was loving all these nice recipes that use cream cheese, sour cream, heavy whipping cream etc. I have developed a high sensitivity to all cow dairy and now I am struggling to figure out replacements for them. Any ideas?
Does anyone have some "dairy free" recipes?
I basically do dairy free Keto, for dinner I eat all kinds of meat with various veg. Like I’ll cook sausage (Italian, chorizo, or andouille) in a fry pan then stir some shredded cabbage in until it softens, serve with a fried egg on top. Or bake chicken thighs with cauliflower & broccoli pieces wedged in around, a lemon mustard olive oil dressing drizzled on. Or I’ll make ginger chicken stir fry & serve it over steamed veg. Even taco salad is great without cheese, you can use guacamole on the side instead of sour cream. Like that. Being dairy free does reduce options but I’ve still got plenty to eat!
Adding, if I need to sub dairy in a recipe I use full fat coconut milk in a can or a nut milk.
I’m not fully off dairy, but I am sensitive to HWC.I keep coconut milk and coconut cream on hand. I also use almond milk a lot, especially if I decide to make some keto hot chocolate.
Here’s a recipe that I really enjoy making: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jO1CUa_N9Uo
Pretty sure she says the parmesan cheese isn’t absolutely needed. I know I’ve skipped it before when making other flavors of the bread (sweet flavors).
Is butter a no-go too? Maybe ghee? I’ll add more possibilities as I think of them.
Hi Kyz, thanks for linking us to that recipe. I may have missed it, but I didn’t catch how long we cook the flat bread for. Do you know? Can you please share?
Thanks in advance.
It’s cooked at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes.
I use it a fair amount and have even added cinnamon and swerve in one and cocoa and swerve (with a touch of cinnamon) in another for sweet treats. I thought the cinnamon/swerve one was pretty awesome.
I avoid dairy a lot of the time and I usually check out paleo sites and modify those recipes to fit into a keto WOE.
I believe that Primal Edge Health has a cookbook that’s completely dairy free. You can check it out HERE
Mayonnaise, bearnaise, hollandaise an tartar sauce are all egg yolk based. Pretty sure they can be made with gee or oil in stead of butter as well
Thanks Kyz. I made it tonight (I am in Melbourne, Australia), with garlic powder and Italian seasoning and probably over-cooked it. It’s now in the freezer. I don’t like the smell of it but will eat it! I will keep trying new flavours until I get it right! Really appreciate your sharing this.
Ooooh… I had this for lunch yesterday … yum! (Very impressed and KNOW this will become a staple. I have missed being able to eat a sandwich!)
