Discouraged but don’t want to quit

I have been in ketosis since 5/11. I test everyday so I know this to be a fact. I’ve only lost 10lbs. Perhaps i can tell a very slight difference in my belly. I am good with my macros. Work out 2-3/wk but not seeing the fat loss I assumed I would see. Im not really overweight. Im 5’7 and started at 167 and I sit here today, almost a full 30 days in ketosis and have only lost 8-10lbs (my scale is whack). I’m either doing something terribly wrong or this diet isn’t for me. ???

do you enjoy whatever you are eating right now? if you do then why give up? if you keep it up for 3 more months you will be 5’7 137lb. how impressive is that?

Exercise doesn’t contribute a ton to fat loss actually. It’s great for many reasons but the actual burning calories part isn’t really one of them. Do you lift heavy or do cardio? Because cardio can be a stressor that often raises cortisol and can slow weight loss. Another thing your body hates is overtraining, so maybe that’s a factor? That being said 10lbs in a month is awesome. Lots of things inside your body are improving aside from the weight loss. What’s the reason for the impatience exactly? Do you have a deadline? About the only way you’ll accelerate fat loss from your current rate (which is considered rapid already) is to fast. But just from the blurb you wrote I think a lot of people would kill for the results you got in the first 4 weeks.

Yeah. I’m loving what I’m eating but I’m also starving all day. And extremely tired. Why? I’ve adapted already.

You shouldn’t be hungry on keto as you need to be eating enough fat to keep you satisfied.

I usually lift and if I have some energy, about 20 min of moderate steady cardio. I’m not in a rush, I guess I thought I would lose more? I really started it to re-wire my brain to not want the donuts anymore. And I’m there. I can skip the office cake with no problems now, but I guess I thought I’d lose more than 10. I can’t fast, bc I’m starving all day. Even after eating a fatty breakfast, an hour later I am STARVING! And also super tired. That shouldn’t be the case at 30 days in…right?

I had 46g of fat for breakfast. That was less than 2hrs ago and I am starving.

There is no way you are already fat adapted. It’s not the same thing as being in ketosis - it takes several months to be truly fat adapted. It sounds like you need electrolytes and more fat if you are tired and hungry.
It’s a common misconception that the weight drops off fast in the beginning - it can be very slow for many people. My sister didn’t lose a pound for a full month and then the weight starting dropping steadily.
I lost 10 pounds right away and then nothing for a full month. Then I lost 40 pounds quickly over the next 5 months (will lots of fluctuations and stalls).
You are actually right on track and doing great by losing 10 pounds in less than a month.
The people who tend to lose quickly are males with a lot of weight to lose. You are barely overweight and if you don’t have a lot of water retention you aren’t going to see drastic weight loss right away.
I can’t figure out why you are hungry after eating lots of fat two hours ago. Are you sure you aren’t getting any hidden carbs? I was shocked when I started tracking everything I ate and realized the balsamic vinegar I was using was high-carb.

You’re not adapted yet so your body doesn’t know to use the fat as fuel, but you have to keep giving it the fat or it won’t adapt. Hungry, eat more fat.

I use My Fitness Pal and track everything I put in my mouth. There are days my TOTAL carbs aren’t even 15g.

Let me ask you this?

Would you rather do a WOE that allows you to lose 10 pounds a month an be able to maintain the weight loss, or would you rather do a diet that allows you to lose 15-20 pounds a month but isn’t sustainable and you end up gaining it all back plus some?

Have you done other types of diets? Have they worked in keeping it off?
If you’re here doing Keto my guess is you’ve already gone that route and know it hasn’t worked for you.
10 pounds a month is awesome if it’s a WOE that you can maintain and keppnoff for good.

The only time I ever feel full for any amount of time is if I get a double tall latte from Starbucks with heavy cream. That fills me up like Thanksgiving dinner. I just know that I shouldn’t be hungry. I don’t know what else to try. And that’s why I haven’t even tried intermittent fasting. I wake up to a growling stomach. :joy:

How many calories are you getting in a day? Some people don’t really see serious weight loss until they increase their caloric intake.

46g fat for breakfast doesn’t sound very much. Sounds as if you need to dramatically increase fat consumption to reach satiaty

10 pounds in a month is perfectly respectable. But “starving,” is not.

Don’t be ruled by strips, your body will adapt and your hunger oughta subside. Are you sufficiently hydrated? Nothing replaces getting enough water. Be patient and you’ll do fine.

You sure? You say you’re not loosing like you want to and your starving which is a dead give away you’re not eating right, or not as in ketosis as you think you are. You say you’ve adapted already but in less than a month that’s unlikely and again, the starving thing says otherwise. What macros are you going by, and what are you eating?

We need an example of your days eating, like today’s assuming your still dealing with the hunger issues.

I am intrigued. What were you expecting to happen? Is there another WOE out there that provides a higher weight loss in a month for a 157lb person? If there is, I want to know cos I am missing out!
