Dietary macros - pre-cooked weight?

(Garrett) #1

Here is one that has me stumped: if you read on the label that a certain food has “X amount nutrients per oz. (grams of protein in 4oz. of ground beef, for example), is that based on pre-cooked weight?

Thanks!

Typically the labels are pre-cooked. Many of the logging/tracking apps will have multiple measures, cooked and uncooked so you can choose.

Bacon is a classic since if you have drained most of the fat off the bacon that rendered out, you need to use a cooked macros per slice to record what you actually ate.

Thank you. I was surprised that this question hasn’t come up more often, but I am a newbie AND a data weenie and it was driving me nuts!
