Diary problem, me?

(Karl L) #1

I’ve never had any issues with dairy, but after several months of stict-ish keto I went a little wild and had some ice cream two days ago, By ‘some ice cream’ I mean bought a pint of Ben & Jerry’s Cherry Garcia and ate the whole thing. I don’t test glucose/ketones so not sure what physiological effect it had, but I went back to my normal routine Wednesday and felt ok. I wasn’t mad at myself. But you know who was mad at me? My backside!! I don’t know if it was the dairy, the sugar or just the shock to my system, but the last two days have been rather uncomfortable.

I would guess the sugar but you won’t know if you have a dairy intolerance unless you completely remove it from your diet for a good few weeks.

It’s the sugar. The post-carb refeed hangover is real, friend. Good luck.

Have you been eating dairy all along with your keto? If so, it’s hard to blame the dairy.

Yeah, totally think it was the sugar. That can wreak havoc on your gut if you haven’t had sugar in a while.

yummm. Cherry Garcia used to be one of my go-to faves from Ben & Jerry. Now, I make that Carrie Brown ice cream if I really have a craving for ice cream.

Yeah, probably the sugar. I haven’t really had any mile since going keto, but plenty of HWC in coffee and occasional chocolate mousse with no issues.

Where do I find this? I’ve been craving ice cream like nobody’s business, but I can’t get myself to buy the halo top. I know it says that it’s super low carb, but the way my nutritionist has me doing things, sugar alcohols do not get subtracted like fiber… So it is NOT low carb for me.

You have to make it, and frankly, it’s not easy. But it’s so worth it.
