So I’m on Day 32, have lotslost 4 lbs of 10 lb goal. Is this fiber ok to put in water for satiety? I think it’s corn, but the fiber content is high, so thought it would hemp with keeping me full. But will it kick me out of ketosis?

I already put psyllium hydrophilic mucilloid in my cottage cheese pancakes.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #2

It ought to be okay, if you keep track of the 2 net grams of carbs.

In the larger picture, I’d question your need for this product in the first place. If you are getting hungry, it would be a good idea to eat more protein and fat. As long as you keep your insulin level low by not eating carbohydrate, your body is free to mobilize its excess stored fat to be metabolized. It just needs to be given enough calories to show it that there’s not a famine going on (otherwise, it will hang on to the fat, in order to get you safely through the “famine”).

Thanks for responding. My calories are 1200 but sometimes I still feel hungry

Can’t say exactly about Dextrin in general, since I’m not that familiar with it overall. But the most used in the US is Maltodextrin, which from everything I read said to avoid. (see insert below) From most of my research I did on going Keto, it always said to avoid Dextrin or Maltodextrin, so I simply decided to avoid either personally. … I believe it was said to be considered simply a cheap filler & will create insulin spikes as well. (If I recall correctly that is?) … So the choice is obviously yours, but I personally would rather use some nice, good ole fats in my meal to keep me satiated. (takes the guesswork out, and much tastier) I also don’t usually speak on others numbers, since I myself to not count (Just my way) But some would probably say 1200 is on the low side.

But again, not my area since I myself don’t follow this route, so hopefully others that do can provide some additional information that might be helpful. Good luck

1200 is ridiculously low that’s why, just eat real food.

I went to a nutritionist that specializes in keto, that’s what she recommended

(bulkbiker) #7

Not a very keto one if they are suggesting caloric restriction…

I came here for support but am finding quite a bit of criticism. Instead of believing everything on the internet, I went to a nutritionist. If that’s what she told me, and my macros who am I to contradict? I’m just trying to do a clean keto diet change.

I don’t think anyone was trying to be criticizing towards you @h_h, but was just simply pointing out the Nutritionist you went to, may not be that informed of Keto. Doesn’t mean they don’t know about Keto, but may be misinforming you. (Keto is still very new to a lot of Doctor’s, mine included when I started along with my Wife and Son) … Her and her husband are both now Keto themselves and learning as much as they can presently. They are also now introducing and recommended it to other patients now that they understand it and our practicing it. (Sadly, there are many in the medical field that still don’t support it, or simply say they do, but don’t really understand it as much as they say) Even worse, this is not beneficial to anyone they provide advice to, and may even misguide their desires.

I’m not a numbers chaser, but that’s why I mentioned your number sounded low. From others who have spoken on here, that also stated a low number such as yours, they weren’t always eating enough. It’s unfortunate there isn’t an accurate way to know for sure what your macros should be for sure, but there are many ways to check into this, and again, you will always find some methods that will not agree.

Sorry for the Edits… Accidentally hit the key before finishing.

However you have joined a forum composed of extremely experienced ketogenic eaters who have had great success with weight loss, reversal of T2 diabetes as well as multiple other medical conditions. So I’d say we probably know better than a “nutritionist” who may or may not be experienced with ketogenic eating. I’d hazard a guess that advice from people who have done it is worth more than advice from a “professional” who may not have? But that’s just me…

I use the Walgreens one, never had an issue with it.

(H H) #12

You stay in ketosis?

#13

Yup, never a noticeable change in sugar or ketone levels.

(H H) #14

Tx, I’m setting maybe it means I should be eating more. Do you track macros? What was your reason for adding it?

#15

Yup, I track everything. I didn’t care about fiber for a couple years and like most keto’rs didn’t really think there was a need. Then I started having some issues with going the bathroom and fat wasn’t fixing it. Fiber did. Took a lot of literal pain, couple DR’s visits and a colonoscopy to figure that out so now I make sure Im getting it in, I don’t care about the trivial amount of carbs in the different fibers, not worth what I went through. I actually caused to damage inside because of those years without it so screw that.

Have never used anything but real food. However, your appetite will decrease on keto, but you need to give it time. Eat when you are hungry. I’m a year in and usually at around 1,000 to 1,200 max, and feel full. So depending on your height and weight that might be okay down the line. But for now, eat up!

It may well be that once you’re adapted you will naturally eat that few calories, some do, but to deprive yourself of food in the early stages as you have been advised to do will only cause you problems. Eat as much as you need to stop yourself being hungry. Carbs below 20g, and enough food to keep hunger away. That is all you need worry about at first.
