How do you get a DEXA for body mass? Normally these are used for bone density…are there places that just do them for this purpose and how do I find those places? Is it expensive?
Dexa
Google Dexa and city near you.
There are frequently Groupon deals.
the scan is identical in either case. for bone density they just focus on the bone density data and disregard the lean and fat tissue percentage details.
here in canada it costs 70.00 -100 dollars. is that expensive? i don’t know.
I’m in Colorado, a search shows them available at several places, no dr. referral needed. Prices are from $100 to 200, slightly less if you buy more than one, so you can do a follow up after changes in exerice & diet. They seem to include a BMR result if in the $125 range which would be desireable.
Good hunting
I found one place doing Dexa scans here in Salt Lake City for $47 ($67 - a $20 coupon). They would also do a BMR for a separate charge. I didn’t need a doctor’s referral. I googled Dexa scan for body composition.
If there is a university near you that has a “wellness center” (more than just a gym) or, better yet, something that may be called a “human performance center”, they may offer it for a really low price.
A university near me offers dexas for $30 (will have to ask if that includes BMR - thanks for mentioning!) and bodpod also for $30 through their “performance center.” If you get both at the same time they will knock $10 off. Cash only. My plan is to get them done in April.
Oh, and they told me up front to wear spandex bottoms and a sports bra, nothing with any metal on/in it. Also no jewelry.
Hope this helps.
I live in the DC area and go to Composition ID. www.compositionid.com . They may have a center in your city.
I have multiple mobile vans available in my area(CA) $45 per, gave bone density, lean muscle and fat, broken down by each area, visceral map and numbers, and BMR, Bone mineral content, very thourough. Body Spec is the company I use.
Does anyone know if the Dexa actually calculates the reported BMR somehow or are they just figuring it using the usual calculators? I thought mine was very low considering my weight, fasting and lchf diet. Would explain why I’m not losing tho if it’s really that low. Thx!
