Deli ham

Is deli ham slice wrapped around cheese and onion an ok keto snack ?

One school of thought is that snacks are kind of counterproductive on keto. The more frequently you eat, the more often it spikes your insulin, and the less your body learns to consume it’s own excess fat as an energy source.

Other than that, it’s a perfectly fine keto snack. As always, check the label for carbs; some deli hams are surprisingly high in added sugar. Also, don’t overboard on the onion, they have a fair bit of sugar in them.

As with all things, the dose makes the poison. If you’re having just one, you can have pretty much any old ham, but if you’re eating 10, you’ve got to be a bit more careful on what kind of ham, and how much onion.

Carbs creep in in the damnedest places, and they add up quick!

Thank you. Something I really like so just a once in a while thing

I eat something like that all the time, especially if I’m still hungry after eating. I can eat this at night, too, which I know is supposedly “bad”, but works for me.

In general, I would consider it to be OK. But it’s going to depend on the ham and cheese. Not all deli hams are the same. Not all cheeses are the same. Some can be highly processed foods and have a lot of things added to them.

With ham, you definitely have to look at carbs. Some of them are very sweet. Others aren’t bad at all.
