fasting

(Jane Srygley) #142

Yes I’m dealing with several no-shows this afternoon LOL Maybe we have similar jobs! I am white knuckling it a bit today but determined to hang in there. I just had my turmeric tea with salt, which tastes like soup and feels nice and warm and comforting. I’ll have some unsweetened licorice tea in a little while, then I’m headed home and just have to get through the evening. Reeeeally looking forward to breakfast tomorrow, though… gotta say :smirk:

yep. You mentioned doing addiction counseling? I’m working on that license. I’m a clinical social worker, doing mental health counseling.

enjoy breakfast! I’m starting to get that empty “yes, I can” feeling and hope to ride it to at least Sunday!

Sitting at about the 33 hour mark after my fasting Friday. I have had my first morning black coffee and am feeling pretty good, so I may continue it a little longer.

Edited: Wrapped it up at about 36 hours. See you guys next week.

(Justin Jordan) #145

Yesterday was a success, so that’s three weeks of semi ADF - it’s been MWF. The next two weeks particularly next week, are going to be tricky, but I think I can get in three each week.

In January, I think my schedule is going to be Sunday, Tuesday, Friday. Since it’s winter I’m lifting Monday and Thursday*, and I think want to have food after on those days.

*The rest of the year I do more, but I life in an unheated, uninsulated shed, and I also live in Pennsylvania, so…

(Eric - The patient needs to be patient!) #146

Wow, stay warm.

(Justin Jordan) #147

I mean, I am probably build some mitochrondria at least. I hope. Maybe.

Since I’m here.

Fasted yesterday, so I’m in week four now. This week is going to be tricky. If I want to get three days in (and I do) then it’s going to need to be Thursday and Friday. Which, I’ve done back to back days before, so it shouldn’t be an issue, but we’ll see.

(Jane Srygley) #148

Holy crap! I live in PA as well. Hope you can hang in there this Winter!

(Justin Jordan) #149

Although just to be clear: that should say ‘lift’ not ‘life’ just in case anyone thought I lived in a shed. I have a house. With heat.

Except in my bedroom, but that’s a choice.

(Ashley) #150

Lift as in lift weights in the shed? Makes a lot more sense lol!

(Justin Jordan) #151

Indeed. I have what I refer to as the exershed with weights, rack, assorted cardio and kettlebell stuff.

(KCKO, KCFO 🥥) #152

Thanks for the clarity. I was concerned about you for a while there.

(Justin Jordan) #153

I am very, very much looking forward to not eating these next couple days.

(Doing a Mediterranean Keto) #154

I have started my first keto fast. Yesterday I had lunch, but not dinner. So far, I have only taken minerals, a multivitamin, vitamin D (soft gels … they have olive oil, but I decided to go ahead with them) and vitamin K. And I have taken a black coffee.

So far, zero hunger, which is good.

In the past, I did two 5-day fasts, but not on keto. This time, being quite close to my ideal weight, probably I will finish earlier.

Looking forward to learn more about fasting from experienced people in this forum.

Welcome. Keep up electrolytes. Even just salt in coffee, water or the palm of your hand. Being near idea BW may make fasting for several days harder. I’m maybe 20 or 30 lbs from goal weight so I can still fast 3 days without problems.

Plan on timing of breaking the fast and how. Some people get disaster pants. I do maybe 50% of the time if the fast is longer than 36 hrs. Even then it can be a problem at 36hrs.

What works for me is bone broth with some of the fat left in it (homemade chicken) and a few pork rinds. Thn I wait for 45 mins to 1 hr to start to eat more and I ease in slowly. I used to eat a few tablespoons of sauerkraut or other actively fermenting food but now I don’t consume any of that till at least 12 hours after breaking the fast.

We are here to support you.

(Justin Jordan) #156

Successful fast. That’s two days this week. Onward through tomorrow.

(Doing a Mediterranean Keto) #157

Thank you for the recommendations!

Today I have lost 0.9kg, to 74.3kg. So, in one and a half day fasting (and in the other half, eating cannelloni!) I have lost 1.9kg … after having lost about 26kg in 4 months!

I thought fasting was “successful” mostly due to glycogen being lost (with lots of water going away), but it seems that also fat is being consumed at a high rate.

Surprisingly, I have zero hunger. It is really strange, because I think about the fasting a lot, but I am not hungry.

But I do not have the feeling of a “hunter” either. I am relatively weak, and calm.

Today at lunchtime I will cross the 48 hours. We will see.

(KCKO, KCFO 🥥) #158

I have done my 36 hrs. I had planned and I am not breaking the fast yet. Didn’t like the idea of eating this AM, so I will go ahead and wait till lunch in another 3-4 hrs.

This one has been very easy, so maybe I should stop playing with longer fasts and just do 36ers at least once or twice a week now. That along with my 5 days of IFing should keep the winter weight creep at bay.

Enjoying reading everyone else’s tales of fasting. These days I laugh at myself when I remember the "I’ll die if I fast " days. I can’t imagine my life without some form of fasting now.

(Mame) #159

yes indeed.

I am back in the office for the work day which makes fasting easier for me. Not sure how long I will go. A day, 36 hours who knows… at 14 hours now. I had some alcohol and carby treats Tues-Thurs (planned not spontaneous) and now I am ready for my more normal routine…

Will do blood measurements later in afternoon.
kcko fasters!

(John) #160

Back with my Fasting Friday. I need it, too. I definitely overindulged over the past few days. The scale shows it, and my jeans are a bit tighter.

(Mame) #161

well that felt good, only fasted about 20 hours but for this week it felt huge LOL

bg=82, bk=1.4, gki=3.25

I am happy with these numbers as I have had a few treats in the past few days. I feel like I am getting good metabolic flexibility.
I am thinking omad this weekend and then meal-less Monday, perhaps even a 48h, sunday night to tuesday night.
