fasting

(Justin Jordan) #81

Success.

I mean, I’m not eating, but I am calling the day. Blood sugar, incidentally, is 91 tonight. This is good stuff for a diabetic.

Qt 17 hours IF fasted I took my BG. I don’t measure BG during intermittent fasting very often.

  • 86 mg/dL

I’m very happy about my BG. Slowly it has been coming down in the fasted state. I’m 542 days into strict keto and recently (maybe 2.5 months) very low carbs most days (<10g and some days <5g).

I think that plus resistance training to failure are both having an impact. But that is a guess.

Started a 36 hr. fast last night, on hr. 16 currently.

Fall and the early winter days seem to be the hardest for my body. It tries to store the fat for deep winter. I reached the top of my range today, my scream weight, even though I have been eating very light all week, so I’m going to do this fast, then refeed and do another one. And join in the Zornfast next week.

Hope everyone is doing well with their fasting this month.

I was! I’m very diligent about that. I was coming off a vacation, so a week that I was eating whatever the fuck I wanted LOL I think the headaches were keto flu, mostly. The electrolytes didn’t help at all. During this current fast, I’ve had a headache each morning, but it hasn’t been too bad. I took one ibuprofen with a sip of unsweetened almond milk which has so few calories, I don’t feel like it breaks my fast. I figured that if the headache bothered me the rest of the day or got worse, I’d break my fast, but so far, the one ibuprofen in the morning has been sufficient.

I have now completed 63 of 76 hours. This is the hardest day so far. I’m mostly just annoyed that I’m not eating today. I want to eat. I want to stop… I’m just annoyed. I’ve been irritable since this morning, actually. I thought maybe my blood sugar would be a bit low but it was 61, which isn’t bad. My ketones were 3.8. I got the same reading last night with a blood sugar of 60, but I wasn’t irritable at all last night.

So I think I just miss food emotionally. My connection to food is VERY emotional. One interesting thing though is I do love the break fasting gives me from the conflict I always feel about eating almost any food. I journaled about this yesterday and figured out that pastured eggs are the only food I can eat without feeling conflicted in any way. If I eat plants, I worry that I should really be eating carnivore. If I eat meat, I feel bad about the animals and worry about the environment. If I eat keto treats or anything sugar free but sweet, I worry that I’m going to secrete insulin. Dairy is not a cow-friendly industry… etc etc etc. So yeah. I need to just eat pastured eggs all the time and nothing else :roll_eyes::roll_eyes: I also worry about how often I eat and the time of day I eat. It’s a fucking nightmare tbh.

But fasting gives me a break from all that inner conflict and turmoil. I love that. Still wanna eat though :smirk:

Animals will save the environment. Monocrops destroy the environment.

You can listen to this farmer of 5,000 acres (both plants and animals):

Plenty more farmers with similar ideas.

I love that you’re a farmer @ctviggen

I appreciate the link and I’ll check it out!

In other news, I just completed my 76 hour fast this morning!!! My longest yet!!! So far I’ve had a cup of coffee with half & half plus collagen and 2/3 cup of bone broth. I have chia pudding awaiting me for later plus fermented veggies and raw cheese. Trying to avoid digestive issues! Next fast of about 20 hours scheduled for Saturday-Sunday.

KCFO and thanks for your support :sparkling_heart:

WTG @AuntJane!! A most excellent accomplishment, Mother Nature is even celebrating with a beautiful full moon (the last of the decade, btw) Glad to hear you have a plan for breaking the fast carefully. The ‘after the fast’ is the trickiest part for me.

I am confessing to not doing as well. I’m 18 hrs into my fast on Wednesday and the customer service person in our office that day says “I’m going keto and I brought us lunch!” She’s a good friend, and I caved. It was still keto, so I’m not feeling as guilty, but then was up a little by this morning instead of further down. ugh. Today is a work party thing and I’ve vowed for a month to just enjoy it, so I may be joining you in fasting this weekend or may wait for the Zorn fast next week.

(Jane Srygley) #88

Yeah I hear you. That scale… :rage::rage::rage:

I was 206.6 lbs this morning which is the lowest I’ve weighed since I was 19yo!!! So yeah pretty happy about that even though I know I’ll probably be up again a bit tomorrow.

I forgot to mention some numbers:

  • The night of my 2nd day fasting, BG 60 and ketones 3.8 (highest I’ve had by far since I started measuring about a month ago)
  • The following (yesterday) morning, BG 61 and ketones 3.8
  • This morning just before ending my 76-hr fast, BG 59 and ketones 5.5 which blew me away!

Great job, and great numbers!

Fasting Friday again for me. Tough one this week - they had a pot-luck at work today and there were (are) plenty of things that are perfectly fine for a low-carb diet, sitting in the conference room calling to me.

However, I am sticking to the plan and not eating.

(Justin Jordan) #91

Another day down. That’s MWF fasts two weeks in a row. Mentally, they’re getting easier.

(John) #92

Done with my Fasting Friday. See you folks again in this thread next week.

(Susan) #93

Last feast tonight before I fast for 72 hours again this week.

(Cancer Fighting Ketovore :)) #94

I’m thinking of fasting tonight. Its been almost 25 hours, and my glucose is riding a nice low 66, according to my CGM. I’m thinking of just a 48-hour fast, instead of a 72. I’ve got one 48-hour fast done this month already

(Patricia) #95

Hi all-
It’s been a while since I’ve posted… last time was a Zorn fast months ago - that was my first EF - for 46 hours, I think. I just passed that 46 hour mark as I’m doing a 5 day “fast mimicking” diet with some minimal avocado and macadamia nuts as a crutch. This approach was recommended by a functional medicine doctor who believes it an equivalent of Valter Longo’s fast-mimicking “ProLon” which is quite costly.

I’ve been a regular 16 hour timed eating person for over a year and lost 30 pounds on keto, but to my dismay have recently been diagnosed with Polymyalgia Rheumatica (PMR). The functional medicine doc recommends the 5 day fast-mimicking diet, repeated once/month for three months. I really don’t want to go on steroids and am looking at other options for cleaning out the nasty cells and resetting my immune system.

I’m wondering if any of you are familiar with PMR and have any advice. While I could lose another 10 pounds, I am not fasting this time for anything but autophagy and creating some new healthy cells. Any advice or direction is welcome… plus I just want to share with some like-minded folk who I know are supportive and understanding.

Thanks for listening!

Started a M,T fast at about 6pm. Plan on 45 to 48 hrs this week. Will do lower body failure training Wednesday AM so want to feed soon after for building lean muscle mass.

But… I have a slight earache in my RT ear and if I wake in the morning with a more pain I will probably not fast. I have not had an ear infection since going lower carb 6 years ago. So I’m hoping it is just from flying today back from a wedding.

(Susan) #97

If you know how to get rid of “swimmer’s ear” it can help an earache. Pinch your nostrils and try to blow out your nose. It can lessen the pressure.Try it gently at first.
A drop of lavender, rosemary, tea tree oil or something like that on your earlobe can help sometimes too. I wouldn’t recommend putting it in your ear.

(Cancer Fighting Ketovore :)) #98

I completed a 48-hour fast. BG 61, BK 2.6 :slightly_smiling_face:

(Susan) #99

24 hours into a planned 72 hour fast. I am feeling great. This is my usual eating time. I am off to bed. If I have the courage I am going to squeeze into an old bathing suit and take an aqua yoga class at 7 30 am. Not a pretty sight.

(Eric - The patient needs to be patient!) #100

Just easing into a 45 hr fast started last night. Will go to the gym and do some light volumetric upper body work then the hot tub and sauna.

My cardio dr said don’t take one of my BP meds while fasting and 1 day post fast. I forgot and took that one last night but will not take it tonight and Tuesday night.
