Day 7 have gained weight!

(jilliangordona) #21

As long as it is good fat, right now in the beginning do NOT worry about it being too much fat!

In the beginning while my body was still healing, I ate and ate and ATE fat. While I didn’t lose pounds, I lost water weight and started feeling awesome!

29g of protein sounds low to me unless that is an incomplete day? If you’re just starting out, you may want to try 1 g/kg lean weight and then adjust it as needed. For example, I’m around 150 and guessing 25% so:

150/2.2 × .75 = approx 50 g

(Benita) #23

Well I appearantly had the fitness pal number set wrong! I just don’t want to fail. Thank you for the info it is extremely helpful and I am printing it out for reference

(Benita) #24

So this is my day 8 and the scale has not moved. I feel like I’m failing I keep changing things up and honestly am almost in tears! I realized yesterday that I had my macros set wrong and have adjusted it
Here is my day so far and what my macros are set at

(KCKO, KCFO 🥥) #25

I’d ditch that Torani syrup. I love those, but I did not loss weight when using them. I’m not diabetic, I thought it would be fine, it was not. Turns out that DeVinci syrups seem to work. I’m fine using that brand, it is the artificial sweetners the companies use. My body likes one and not the other. I only use stevia or truvia when cooking. But the syrups can make a simple cup of coffee so much more of a treat.

You are just getting going, your body needs to heal and as others have said don’t worry about the fat. I would add, right now, don’t worry about that 1200 cals either. Eat your carb goal, hit the protein goal, and eat enough fat that you don’t want to eat your arm off before your next meal. Once you are healthier, then tweak cals, %, or whatever. Just give yourself some time to heal. Notice if you feel better when you hit those macros, be sure and take measurements, and keep calm and …

BTW, I am on MFP and lots of people have reported no or very low initial weight loss but after a month or so, their bodies have adapted and the weight starts coming off for them.

(Benita) #26

first of all thank you! I will switch syrup I tried to hard to be careful and read labels and research what to get. Im fond of my coffee and most mornings don’t even drink the whole cup, but Ill look for the DeVinci syrup. Im not even using anything else, Im not baking, making fat bombs or any of that, just trying to keep it simple and feel as though Im failing. My number today seem to be messed up. Its frustrating when you read of all these people losing the first week and Im over here crying!! Do my numbers and pie chart look ok?

(Benita) #27

one question is butter good fat? I love avocados and could eat them all day. Im struggling with what fat to eat.

(jilliangordona) #28

Yes butter is!!

You really only want to avoid industrial vegetable oils such as soybean, canola, corn, peanut, and safflower oil (add in fellow ketonians if I am missing one).

I cook in lots of butter and avocado oils. Those are my go-tos, personally.

Based on your questions, I would HIGHLY suggest looking up the 2KetoDudes podcast, the inspiration for this forum, and look up some of the “getting started” videos. They helped me tremendously!

(Karen Fricke) #29

I think 1200 calories is way too low. If you don’t eat enough your body fights to hang on to what it has.

(Benita) #30

How would I recalculate? I used the keto calculator. I tried very hard to do everything right but feel like in reality Ive done everything wrong. I have done every diet known to man since I was 16!. And for whatever reason I just can’t get this figured out. Before I started this 8 days ago I was on a tremendous sugar high! And one would think when you don’t and ANY or very few that in itself would help you drop at least a few pounds! I’ve posted earlier today what I had eaten up until this point and this is the rest of what Ive had today, I keep feeling like Im missing something. Im just needing guidance to figure this out!

KCKO (Keep Calm Keto On)

It will happen. Relax and trust the process…

Avocados, butter are good. Fatty fish the lower on the food chain the better for mercury (anchovies, mussels, sardines etc). I like smokedsalmon occasionally. Fatty red meats… pork shoulder, brisket, chuck roast, brisket, ribs, uncured bacon…

Just cut out everything with artificial sweeteners for a week. If you have success I doubt you’ll want them back. But if you do add one and see how it affects you after a few days.

Lastly, when you weigh yourself really matters. Do it naked 1st thing in the morning after peeing. That is the most consistent time to do so. Women also have lunar things that affect their weight that I can not help you with.

Lastly if hungry eat fat! Oberto sausage sticks, a few fatty nuts (macadamia, cashews…). You should not be hungry. The most important thing is don’t give you body carbs for fuel. It will convert to burning fat then you hunger for snacks will go down and weight should follow.

Lastly… KCKO😀

(Karen Fricke) #32

First thing, relax. Keep carbs at 20 grams, protein at 1 gram per kilogram of lean body mass (50-60 grams for female, 75-80 for males) and fat to satiety. Use whatever app for tracking, but ignore their macros and just use it to calculate macros from your food. The 2 biggest issues I have seen from people not losing are artificial sweeteners and too much protein.

(Benita) #33

I fear protein as I know from past diets that it is bad for me ! The only sweetener I have is the one tablespoon in my coffee and someone else mentioned that I should omit and so I will thank you so much for being kind and helpful

(Benita) #34

Thank you for the bacon answer! I have been confused if it should be cured or uncured. I’ve been trying to keep the carbs healthy: spinach, butter lettuce
Nothing processed except a few pork rinds but have backed off of those also
Trying to read labels

(Mike Glasbrener) #35

Some bacon is cured with sugar. Granted it’s probably not much but at this point you’re looking to get rid of ALL unnecessary carbs!

BTW stress is not helpful at all.

Relax. Not everyone drops a ton of weight in the beginning. 7-8 days while learning is not enough. Keep learning and if you’re being very strict and not allowing hidden carbs to creep in I’m sure you’ll be successful.

I love keto bc of the sinplicity, so i hate to hear youre having such an awful start. I didnt loose weight either the first few weeks, and in fact over the past 3 months i have only lost 15lbs (i say only because my coworker lost 30 in 3 months, but im grateful bc nothing else worked for me). I did find out i was eating too many veggies. My dr said 2 cups of uncooked veggies and i was measuring things like collard greens and cabbage after they were cooked. I found out 3 months later :0 that measuring it that way after theyre cooked it has 3 times the number of carbs. Instead of 3 carbs per uncooked cup i was turning it into a 9 carb per serving and having 2 "cups " cooked plus. So little things like that may be hidden pitfalls. Also recipes that ive cooked that have been considered low carb after i entered them into the recipe tab on my fit pal, the carbs were very high. I guess they ment low carb ib relation to its high carb partner, but would considered high for the phase of keto that im in and plan to stay in. Hope you stay encouraged! Think about how great you feel and will feel. I have a ton of energy and i work 12 hr night shifts! While my co workers are slumped over and tired, after eating their cookies and chips, im over there smh and full of energy:-). Keep going, you can do it

(Benita) #37

I appreciate your honesty!! Its hard when you are gaining and you read everyone else is losing. I struggle with low self esteem, so failing puts me in a panic. My problem seems to be that I go over on my protein no matter how hard I try not to. You see all these people eating protein like crazy and Im over here wondering where I went wrong? I have hypothyroidism and adrenal stress and the adrenal stress seems to keep me in a mess. I don’t plan on giving up just looking for some guidance

(Benita) #38

Thank you. I try not to stress!!! But I just can’t get a handle on my protein. I know for me I shouldn’t go over but I can’t seem to figure out how not to. Thats why I keep posting my logs thinking someone will see something and can point it out!!! One person pointed out the sweetener I was using in my one up of coffee could be causing issues so I will stop that! If I could see any results I would feel better!!!

(Mike Glasbrener) #39

I looked at some of the food you posted. Chick breast packed in water is all protein no fat. Some people don’t do well with chicken either. Way to early for you to know this. FOR ME I struggle with chicken presently so I do not eat it. I am generally really boring at breakfast (when I eat it) and lunch. I generally eat an avocado and anchovies for breakfast. Lots of good fat, really low carb. Lunch: hand full of spinach, salami, blue cheese and blue cheese dressing. Dinner is a fatty meat and a side of green veggies. Every meal I want a high fat content. Thus the chicken in water is doesn’t help you get where you want to go. Canned stuff for me is always packed in olive oil. But what I described is what works for me… everyone is a snowflake. :grinning:

(Benita) #40

Thank you!! Maybe I just don’t understand how to read that pie chart!!! I swear Im not a stupid person but this has me in a tissy!!! Once I figure it out AND START losing and not gaining I won’t be quite so crazy!!! I mean I can eat donuts and candy bars and be fat!!! I really don’t want to eat right and gain weight!! thats whats frustrating!!!
