Day 6 Help With Macros

(Jen) #1

Hi everyone,

I’m on day 6 of this endeavour (using carb counter app) and so far so good…I think? I feel so good that my dieter-trained brain is telling me I’m doing something wrong. Bought some keto sticks more for fun than anything and I’m purple so hopefully that’s a good thing.

I’m trying not to obsess about macros but I really don’t want to derail myself by not knowing what I’m doing. I’m wondering if I can get some advice on how closely you have to hit macros. I’ve read that going over on protein=bad. Going over on calories (although not technically regulated)=bad and even going drastically over/under on fat=bad.

I’m struggling with today’s macros because net carbs and protein are a bit low but I’m really satiated. I don’t want to start shoving food in my mouth to hit some targets. My total calories are 967 (guideline is not above 1200), my net carbs are 8 (guide 18 max), my fat is 76g (target 73) and my protein is 57 (target 76). Would you say I’m ok or would I need to take in some more protein and (god forbid) carbs?

Thanks for the help!

You don’t really have to worry about protein unless you have t2dm and you liver is making too much sugar. Purple means don’t worry everything is good.

Sounds like you are doing just fine. Definitely don’t eat if you are not hungry! Hang in there, it gets easier & more intuitive over time. And it changes over time too, so just be ready to tweak & adapt as you go along. Read every forum post you can, I found it really helpful to see how everyone else did it so I could tailor my keto experience to myself.

Welcome to the forums!

The only crucial thing to worry about as far as nutritional ketosis is concerned is to keep your carb intake as low as possible. Keep your protein reasonable and replace the calories that used to come from carbohydrate with fat. Eat till you stop being hungry, and don’t eat again until you are hungry. Don’t worry about how many calories you’re eating or how much fat. Let your body tell you when you’ve given it enough.

If you eat this way you will give your body the resources it needs to heal your metabolism, and you will free it to burn its stored fat in the process.
