Day 4, over the keto flu hump!

#1

Background: I did keto from August-October last year and lost 30lbs. I decided to let my 30lb victory turn into “well I can have a piece of candy to celebrate!” one piece turned into about 100 and fell off the keto wagon because I was weak and Halloween candy. UGH.

I’ve been struggling to get back on the wagon and kept making stupid excuses (wait till after the holiday stress (and food) is over, I have a stressful week at work coming up, and on and on). I gained back ALL of those 30lbs in just a few months. (Lesson learned!) I re-started eating keto about 4 times since January 3rd this year but chickened out after I started feeling sick with the keto flu. No matter how much sodium and electrolytes I take I get super sick during the transition. The first time I went into ketosis I literally spent all night throwing up and landed in the urgent care for fluids the next day. After starting to listen to the 2KG podcast last week I hopped over here and got the motivation to seriously get through the first few days and back into ketosis.

So, after getting through a super ragey Saturday and drinking broth all day yesterday I managed to only have about 5 hours last night where I was super sick and sitting on the floor next to the potty.

Today is day 4 and I woke up in a good mood, feeling half way decent with tons of energy. My mind is on FIRE today at work. It’s 20 minutes past lunch and I’m not even really hungry.

I FINALLY MADE IT! And my scale victory is that I’ve lost 9.4 lbs since Thursday evening. WOOHOO!

Did you start eating something that you weren’t before? MCT oil or coconut oil comes to mind. That sounds horrible and I hope you don’t have any more nights like that!

Nothing new that I can think of.

I think my body just has a hard time with the transition. It wasn’t as bad this time though because I focused on keeping my salt and electrolytes up. I think my failure to do that the first time I went keto is what landed me throwing up all night and in the urgent care for fluids.

All is good now that I’m over the hump.

This time you knew you weren’t going to die … that’s one reason why ketoing the second time around is slightly easier.

Haha yes that helped too.
