Day 1, and so it begins

(Jason Hill) #1

Hi all,

Hope everybody is awesome today. Greetings from a sunny Derbyshire, UK

So its day 1 for me and i thought I’d post what i have eaten and what I have for lunch to get some feedback from you pros!!

So, started with 3 eggs, scrambled with 15g of Kerry Gold Butter and 2 Rashers of Streaky Bacon.

For lunch i have 100g grilled chicken breast, 50g Avacardo, 4 Rashers of bacon, 100g Cucumber, 25g Spinach and 2 tbsp of Mayonnaise.

Total 1085 Cals - 77g Protein, 14g Carbs and 82g Fats. I have a meal left obviously so will look at whats remaining to stay within the 70%/25%/5% split

What do you think ? Am I on the right track ?

Appreciate any feedback and help guys. I’m in this for the long run as i need to turn my health and my life around !!!

Thank you.
Jay

Calories look pretty low, but other things look to me like you’re heading in the right direction after two meals. Try not to let your calories get too low as you risk slowing down your metabolism, and you want to teach you body that there’s plenty of fuel, it’s just a new fuel that it has to get used to burning.

Rather than percentages, try to look at it in terms of grams. So under 20g of carbs, plenty of protein, sorted.

Gotta keep an eye on things like cucumber - 100g is over 10 percent of your carb allowance for virtually no calories or protein or fat, so having that much somewhat unbalances things. (Screenshot below from Cronometer.) I try to plan what I’m having a day before and then can input it into Cronometer and then I can see if there’s anything I want to change.

But yeah, good stuff. the cucumber is just an example of how sneaky food can be. :metal::metal::metal:

Thank you for the response. I appreciate it.

I am aiming for around 1800 calories per day to start with. I will adjust depending on how i feel energy wise etc.

I understand your comments on the cucumber. What could I use to fill out a lunch meal instead ?

More meat

Hi Jason,
Welcome - I am UK too, Wiltshire.

Your food generally looks good. I would add a whole avocado (and probably some grated cheddar too!) on my lunchtime salad.
Hopefully your dinner involves a nice juicy steak and creamy sauce

Hey.

Thank you, feels good to be taking control again!!

Yeah i forgot the cheese, Dam it !!! I will definitely add that in tomorrow !!

What sort of sauce could you make that would go with a Steak then ?

Equal parts sour cream and mayonnaise. Add in horseradish, garlic powder, salt to taste.

(Jason Hill) #8

Dude this sounds awesome

Thank you so much

(Mike W.) #9

I use it on steak, grilled chicken, veggies, even used it as salad dressing before.

#10

How do you make it? Just mix and use, or is there more to it than that?

(Mike W.) #11

Mix. Use. Repeat

I would do a peppercorn sauce.
In the pan you cook the steak (in lots of butter of course!), take the steak out to rest and add some whole peppercorns, or a load of ground pepper, cook for about 20 seconds at a fairly high heat, then add double cream and cook whilst stirring to get all the good bits off the bottom of the frying pan. Once it has thickened a bit, pour over steak…eat!
Don’t forget making Halloumi fries to go with it - 1 block of halloumi, cut into chip shapes and fried in hot butter until crispy…yum.

ps I’m fasting today and now I’m hungry!!!

Your macros look very similar to mine except I eat around 1300 calories per day and, mine is the DAILY total.

I wouldn’t try to reduce your calories too soon, it will make life unnecessarily difficult for you. Eat plenty of fat, it will help to reduce your hunger between meals. Things to concentrate on -

Carbs to less than 20g/day
Learn what ‘Full’ feels like.
Stop eating when (or just before) you feel full.
Don’t put anything in your mouth, unless you know its macros.
Be honest with yourself.

Good luck.

EDIT - corrected calories from 13 to 1300 :grimacing:

Ah ok, thanks.

(Ellie) #17

13 calories daily…What???

(Ellie) #18

Damn you!! I haven’t eaten since Sunday…why are you doing this to me???:sob::sob:

#19

I would love this but, I don’t cook my steak with butter… … …it makes me sick :disappointed_relieved:
Can you suggest another way of creating a peppercorn sauce?

ps - I’m rubbish at cooking, baking etc

(Ellie) #20

If you fry your steak in oil it will also work. It is just a matter of getting all the tasty juice and bits from the pan to help flavour the sauce.

Steak sauce-
Mushrooms fried in butter with black pepper and double cream.
