Curious why ketones tanked

#1

Started my day out yesterday with dark purple ketone strips. Drank coffee with a lot of cream ( I prefer cafe au lait) Walked for an hour did an hour of kettlebells then ate lettuce, bacon, cherry tomatoes, mayo, goat cheese gouda, and macadamia nuts and pecans for lunch. 8:30 dinner ate portion of diet doctor Asian slaw, pork rinds, sour cream. My carbs were right on 20 grams, protein 66 grams, 170 grams of fat (oops😜). So obviously i over eat but I didn’t think that would throw me out of ketosis but sure enough it did. The only other factor that I just thought of was in the middle of my workout I received a certified letter from an attorney representing my business office landlord doubling my rent and terminating my lease. This was extremely stressful as I can’t find affordable space and am going to have to change the entire way I work. I was stressed all day and night, was awake most of the night, actually still am and probably will be stressed until I can find an affordable option. So if it wasn’t what I ate could the stress throw me out of ketosis?

Ignore the Pee strips.
If you’re following the program (as you seem to be), don’t sweat it.
You’re doing great… Stay the course!

I knew someone would say that but I want to know…

There are potentially so many variables going on. Not worth trying to unpack it. It’s about the long-term results. KCKO. Sorry, about the stress!

Did you drink anything during the day? I would bet you did, and that will dilute the ketones in urine.

Throw the pee sticks away and carry on as you are.

I can just share my own experience. when I eat too much even though carbs are low, my blood ketones drastically fall… (possibly too much bacon :man_facepalming:t2:)

Having said that stress hormone is cortisol, and too much of that will spike insulin… (you said you were stressed all day/night so persistent levels of insulin would’ve stopped ketones production for most of the day…) could’ve is it just this instance you’re worried about?

Also after the gym ketones are almost non-existent… even after hours and still fasted ketones are very low… -guess ketones get used up in the gym, how taxing were those kettle bells?

Also pee sticks are shite mate!

Depends on when you tested your urine ketone levels using urinalysis strips because it fluctuates erratically (high to low at different intervals and cycles of time) due to muscular exertion from one minute to the next (simply walking around the house)!

Ketone blood meters give a more accurate picture of the blood PH and what’s really going on!

Ketone strips are kind of novel!

Ketone test strips can read darker if you have a lot of fat that day or if you’re dehydrated. I’ve read about it and have personally tested it out. Also, as time goes you secrete less ketones as your body uses them more efficiently instead of just releasing them in your urine. As long as you’re even “trace” you’re still in ketosis.

How is it going now? It’s been a few days, did anything change?

So, I fasted the following day and registered ketones that evening. However, the following day I was out again. I believe the glycine supplement I am taking is kicking me out of ketosis. I am going to stop taking it for a week and see what happens. Thanks for checking in.
