Curiosity about Satiety?

(Jay AM) #21

It’s hard to make something like that because the list gets long of things that might happen. And, to a newbie, it looks pretty scary. It’s much easier to address individual questions like yours and hope most people doing keto at least did some basic research and learned about electrolytes and fat.

I think that a sticky explaining most of the possibilities that a beginner will encounter would encourage many to not give up and power through the tuff times, whereas reaching some of the symptoms associated with transitioning wouldn’t scare them. I came real close to giving up because of unanswered aches and pains that I couldn’t get a straight answer on the internet for. Everything was always addressed with “consume more salt” and “it is an electrolyte problem” which didn’t really tell me anything about what my body was really doing. Sometimes I was given links to studies and podcasts that (while there were good ones) still really just said the same thing without really explaining or telling you procedure to help the situation.
I do understand that something like that couldn’t be at all specific but surely could be generalized enough to at least describe possible effects, causes and symptoms.
Just thinking out loud

Well, there is a FAQ section that many already don’t read. And a search function that many don’t use. I feel like, if someone really wants an answer, they’ll put in a little effort. But, many won’t put in the extra effort to do extra research into it and let themselves be helpless.

You were given the answers about electrolytes. Now, the people answering may not have known how or why you needed them. But, the procedure is to get more of them and that’s how the situation is helped.

I’m not saying a giant list of horrible keto side effects isn’t a good idea (it might at least get some people who just want to do keto for a few days to lose 20 lbs to think more seriously about it.) But, the list of possible side effects is a mile long and there is already general information in easy reach. I do agree that the forum having a different structure here might help. Like, the resources and help are all the way at the bottom on mobile. On reddit, you have to figure out this complicated side bar system to find anything. Lots of people don’t automatically assume their question has an answer somewhere because they feel it’s oddly unique and wouldn’t go looking for the answer in an FAQ anyways.

While I agree with this statement and also think that some simply avoid it because it is just easier to ask a question and let someone answer it. A “lengthy” post on a main page might save a lot of unnecessary repetitiveness and continual explaining.

A great idea for a sticker. The site has grown to such an extent that it can be overwhelming for a beginner. And there are quite a few pushing protein, fat, electrolytes, fasting, etc. as THE solution to every issue. Listening to the podcasts like the 2KetoDudes, The KetoWoman, The KetoTalk, The Keto Hacking MD, The Ketovangelist will help you appreciate how varied this Way-Of-Eating can be and where you want to be on the spectrum. The Low Carb Down Under Youtube channel has an immense collection of videos also. All the best on your journey.

I disagree members are helpful by offering a possible solution when asked for advice (Opinion) a big difference from pushing

I don’t think feeling full all the time is normal, especially on keto and it may be nothing but I would talk to a doctor about it.

(Rob) #28

Damn straight - there should be a lot more stickies around here but there is always the issue of responsibility of curation. I think they will come over time as the weight of user numbers makes the forums more unwieldy. It is already up 50% since I joined 6 months ago and I don’t see it stopping…

In the meantime - use the forum search function for any question you have. The algorithm generally promotes relevant topics with more likes so you can often get answers fairly easily and if not, it is definitely worth asking!

Exactly what satiety feels like for me

I either OMAD or Every Other Day with a 3 or 4 day EF here or there. I have learned what my body needs to get me to my next meal with no hunger and very little to no discomfort

“May the Force (fat adaption) be with you”

IF/EF Keto WOE is Self-Discovery

Good luck and much success in your journey in IF/EF Keto WOE

(Joe) #30

@mntcntrykid I know I did it right when I feel full and then an hour later I feel lean again with energy and not hungry. When I go past satiety I feel too full and then uncomfortable for the next 3-4 hours.

(Chris W) #31

I both agree and disagree with this statement, and the sentiment in general.
I believe that there is a certain amount of responsibility of the WOE user understand what they are getting them selves into via research. Places like this foster that, and are a great repository of knowledge. I know that I spent a great deal of time at ruled-me in the first few months and I am greatful for the knowledge that I gained there. I also spent large amounts of time outside of there for research as I progressed. Then I found the dudes, and I dunno I have listened to about 75 hours of podcasts so far and have many more to go.

That said I also believe Carl hit it on the head and believes in giving back, and that I feel this my purpose at this point, sometimes its best to get a reassuring answer or direction from others who experienced it and a FAQ at least cannot accomplish that. I also believe a lot of us have interaction problems already so this is a small form of support as well, I dunno maybe its giant for some, but my journey was well underway when I arrived here. Just my 2 cents, or 52 pounds.

(Ron) #32

This is exactly what I am experiencing and I think learning the limits is going to be key for me. It is good to know that others have traveled the same path this WOE is leading me down. It is kind of exciting understand my body signals compared to the last 60 years of just going with the “sugar flow”.

This is proving to be very difficult for me right now as I transition. I am so used to breakfast, lunch, supper, snacks in between, dessert, etc. I also hear my parents’ voices in my head “don’t waste food, there are millions of starving children who would be quite happy to eat that”. So in order to conquer the leaving food on my plate, I just use a smaller plate. Last night for example, I Instant Potted some pork ribs, made some spicy coleslaw, ate it, and left a little bit of food on my plate but about an hour later, really felt like I needed something else, so I made a mug cake - because that voice again - after supper comes dessert. It’s really difficult to first of all change those voices, and secondly to change the way you think about food (you being the royal you - actually meaning me!!).

This morning however, I had a BPC around 9:00 am - I don’t usually eat breakfast and didn’t pre-Keto. But around 11:45 am decided I wanted an omelette. Made a 3 egg omelette and ended up giving about 4 last bites to my husband. I felt full’ish but also felt like if I ate anymore I would be uncomfortable.

I think I have a lot to listen to in my body and that it is going to take me quite some time before I can actually “hear”.

(Ron) #34

You can do this. It is difficult through the transition but I can attest that it IS worth it. I am feeling better every day. The desire for food progressively lessened as the days went by and even though I still wanted to eat, the willingness to experience the benefits of my labors increased. I felt like what I had accomplished was too great to throw away. Stay strong, KCKO!

There is a mind aspect to the 3 squares a day as well as hormonal, I would say it was well into a month before I really started to be free from the 3 squares and then thanksgiving happened. Part of that response is driven by your insulin so give it some time and you should be freed from that issue. This is one of the things i think that is effected the most by falling off the wagon so to speak, for me at least in the first month it reset that 4 hour clock right when it was starting to not be a factor. By Christmas it was not an issue even when I fell off again, or at least not a noticeable one.

I started to listen and it seemed to come naturally after a few months.

I could have kept on snipping little word bytes from this but … it’s all up there! :point_up_2: @SlowBurnMary once again hits it out of the park for education-dense posts! I learn so damn much from you! :+1: :+1: :+1: :star_struck: You rock.

So glad you’re YOU @CandyLindTX! :herb::avocado::purple_heart:
