Cross posting this here because I'm panicked and need advice

No, actually. I don’t even attempt to lower blood sugar the 7 days before my period. I get literally non-functional and the last time I did I wound up screaming in a man’s face at Walmart because he had the nerve to sneer at me for waiting to back out until the way was clear. I realize he wanted my spot, but since he was right up on my bumper I couldn’t back out anyway. This is the golden week- ovulation, good feelings, lots of…well, you know

Front door has two coats of primer. Tomorrow it’s going to be turquoise. HOA president said I could LOL

Just my opinion (and a controversial one here but what was my problem), you’re eating too much fat. Your body won’t use your stored fat if you’re ingesting more than your metabolic deficit. But your medical condition comes first.

Y’all want to see the front door?

If you remember Dr. Fungs comments on fasting, he says the first 36 to 60 hours you are using glycogen stores. At that time before your body switched to burning fat there is a small and of catobolism of muscle, until tote body switches to burning ketones, give it a few more days

(Teresa Driver) #26

I was under the impression that since I have been doing keto for 2 years now at less than 20 carbs a day and have been eating a carnivorous diet (under 5 carbs a day to account for egg yolks and heavy whipping cream) for the last 7 weeks(today) that I didn’t have an excess of glycogen stores. Could you point me to that linK? Maybe I’ve missed something.

You should already be in the fat burning mode. Dr. Fung’s timeline for fasting referred to above is for people who are burning carbs when they start the fast.

It does sound to me like you’re probably burning dietary fat (or possibly storing it) rather than using your own fat stores for most of your energy. Also, not sure how much protein you’re consuming but that could definitely be spiking your insulin and causing your fat fast to actually be more of a calorie restricted diet (which could be causing you to burn muscle).

Ultimately we all have to figure out what works for our own bodies. If fat fasting doesn’t seem to be working for you, then absolutely use another tool that does!

Good luck.

Carolyn

Yes!

Just realized you said earlier that you’ve gained weight after going on an anti-depressant medication.

You might want to check out Jason Fung’s blog from Aug. 7, 2015 where he discusses the role of
certain medications and cortisol on insulin levels.

Thank you for the link to Dr. Fung. I am hoping the Prozac isn’t the problem, because that has probably saved my life this last year. I had gained all my losses back and then some when I was switched to a different medication.

I am also hoping that maybe the endocrinologist will help me treat my Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and get my thyroid levels where they should be. Who knows? I might not need Prozac at all. But it’s taken me 2 years to 1) find a primary care physician who is willing to believe me when I tell her how I eat and why and 2) get a referral to an endocrinologist for a whole slew of hormonal imbalances that just MIGHT be causing my difficulties (and not me being a fat-ass causing them).

You’re welcome.

Good luck - hope getting your thyroid hormones under better control helps with the depression.

I want to see the door !

What device or calculation did you use for your body fat percentage?

(Teresa Driver) #34

Sorry for the delay. I have been on hiatus. Envy my silk porch plants lol.

(Teresa Driver) #35

My personal favorite is the online calculator here because it says that I’m only 28.5% body fat by measurements:
http://www.bmi-calculator.net/body-fat-calculator/#result

However, I also use a ridiculously expensive electrical impedance scale which puts me between 48% and 52% depending on my protein intake.

I am trying to convince my PCP to order a DEXA scan so we can resolve this discrepancy once and for all. Most days I just take the average of the lowest and highest value and aim my protein goal at that so I do 59% LBM

UPDATE!!!

Saw the endo today. He drastically raised my NDT and said to get it checked in 6 weeks to see if we should raise it again. Mentioned several different medical weight loss interventions then backed out of giving me phentermine (damn it! My house is spotless when I take speed and right now it’s NOT). He seems to like Victoza, so depending on what happens with my body as we get the thyroid levels stabilized that is an option. I’m not scared of subcutaneous injections, but I don’t have enough personal strength to do IM on myself.

I always pee b4 my AM weigh in.

Did the hypothyroidism go away? I’m dealing with that via an Endo specialist at the minute and would love any info you could share from your own experience.

Thanks!

(Teresa Driver) #39

No, but it’s controlled for now. He’s raised me to 120 mg pork thyroid and 75 mcg of levothyroxine. I finally feel human and we are waiting to see if it holds of if he needs to raise the doses again. Best news ever is I have started losing the 50# I put on while trying to get my dosage right.

Congrats, that’s brilliant news!

And solely, I think that was a typo or autocorrect on my part. I meant hypocorticolism, not hypothyroid. Did your cortisol normalise?

Thanks!
