Cream

#1

Hi all whats the advice here on dairy? I have double cream that are 1.6g carbs total per 100ml and the rests saturated fats so this seems great for keto? The only other real dairy im eating is some cheddar which is less than .5grams carbs per 100grams so again seems great for keto. How come ive read a fair bit about limiting dairy etc shouldnt it just be limit high carb dairy or is there something im missing?

6 days a week I put 1/4 cup of whipping cream (and a tsp of Stevia) in one of those Big Bubba Walmart stainless mugs full of iced coffee and I eat 2 ounces of cheese. Will that put me in an early grave? The people I trust say the evidence so far does not show a link to all cause mortality and saturated fat. Science reserves the right to change it’s mind and/or it’s true for most people, may be not all people. Another way to look at it, are the same calories from carbs better or worse for health compared to the same calories from saturated fat in cream and cheese? These two foods are strictly for energy, which is the healthier choice?

Someone who knows more about this will reply, I’m sure.

I noticed the same thing a while back. When I looked into it, I found that people were limiting dairy for other health reasons, not weight lose or just keto WOE. It looked quite prevalent because there are a lot of people here doing keto to help with other health issues.

I may be wrong tho.

Some people limit dairy because they feel it causes them to stall in weight loss, or due to other health reasons or sensitivities.

Many people eat full fat low carb dairy on their keto diet.

I would say if you are keto for weight loss and hit a stall point, do some experimenting and see if you prefer to keep it in your diet.

Part of what makes these topics hard to discuss, research, etc. is that everybody has some observational bias because everybody eats. Most people interested in keto are trying to lose weight so that has a big influence on recommendations. Other people may want the comfort of being in the highest state of ketosis. Still otheres hope keto has some magical properties that excuse them from exercise, and the list goes on. My bias is my weight loss phase ended months ago. I’m between 11-12% body fat. Going lower would not be productive. I’d like to put back a few pounds, so long as it’s muscle. More energy for exercise wouldn’t hurt either. Pick any macro or micro nutrient at random and you can find somebody or some research study trying to prove that too much or too little or fed the wrong way or what ever is good or bad or safe or dangerous and on and on it goes.

Right now I find the research and clinical people associated with the keto approach to be the most credible and sensible. That will change in a heart beat if something more credible comes along and I’ll have the good sense to recognize if it appears.

Dairy can be very inflammatory to some.

I could not live without cream. It’s CREAM,
damn it
!

With dairy products, it’s really just trial and error to see what works for your body, in my opinion anyways!! Some people can eat full day dairy all day long with no problems, others have to limit intake or dairy or eliminate it altogether. You just really have to play around with it and see how it affects both results and the way you feel!! Good luck!!

Good for some, bad for others, indifferent for the rest. N=1

I’m currently dairy free by choice. I was dairy free for many years before keto but reintroduced it after stumbling in to keto and recently I’ve been wondering if it’s helping me or not so committed to being dairy free until the end of November to see how I get on.

I’m not sure what this is but you may be able to tolerate it, along with other dairy.

I eat cheese and use heavy whipping cream regularly and would miss it terribly! What are your concerns?

Double cream is one of my top foods on keto, i can’t have bulletproof coffee because of migraines, so i have around 30ml of double cream in my tea each morning with a tsp of butter and thats usually my base minimum amount of cream before eating.

I eat cheese too, all of them. From cream cheese, to mozarella, to parmesan. If i had to cut something out first, I think it would be the cheese over the cream but i don’t plan on cutting out.
