So, I get 1/3 less fat cream cheese so I get less carb. However, when I scan it or search for it, it still comes up at 2 carbs per serving. Anyone else experience this?
Cream Cheese
Hi Jennifer
“1/3 less fat” version of the cream cheese will contain 1/3 less fat, but since fat contains no carbs, I assume the carb content will remain the same.
Or worse, carb count may actually be higher, as the manufacturer may have added carbs to whatever replaced the fat it removed.
It is only Philadelphia brand cream cheese that shows fewer grams of carbohydrate on their label for the low fat version. Other brands show the same or more carbs.
Whether the Philadelphia brand uses a different formulation, or whether it’s done kind of measuring error, or just a mistake, I don’t know. I prefer the full fat in any case.
I find Philadelphia has more carbs in it that no-name, or supermarket brand cream cheese. To be honest I don’t notice much difference in taste, so I go for the lower carb supermarket brand.
Is that the lower fat version? If so, what supermarket is it? It would only be the second case in which the low fat version had fewer carbs.
Here in the UK where I think @Groversaurus and I live…
Full fat Philadelphia i listed as 4g of carbs per 100 g
The light version as 5.1g per 100g and
the “lightest” as 5.9g per 100g
The supermarket own brand that I use “Waitrose”
is listed as 2.8g pr 100g
and their reduced fat as 2.9g per 100g
Go figure… I use the supermarket own brand also half the price of Philly
Oh sorry I may have confused. All full fat, but I find the supermarket brands are fewer carbs than Philadelphia.
(all figures per 100g)
Philly 4.0g
Sainsbury’s own 2.8g
Tesco’s own 1.8g
Philladelphia cream cheese, full fat, shows 18 servings in a foil wrapped bar… and at 1 carb and one gram of sugar per serving… so 18 of each with the bar… 18 grams of sugar is what’s worrying me… no worries??
