Cramps

(Mandy ) #1

So I’m day 5 in got the headaches and today started getting stomach cramps. Is this a keto side effect or is it something else?

Can you describe your protocol a bit better? What are you eating? What are you supplementing? Are you taking any salt?
Did you add a lot of fat very suddenly? (going from a very low fat diet to “eat all the fats” did trouble my GI a bit at the start)

I started keto on Monday it is now Friday(I’m in Australia) all week ive been eating Greek yoghurt for breakfast, I skip lunch and then it’s meat n veg for dinners, one night having miso soup, and one night having tuna n salad. Having salt in everything I cook.

are you hungry? yoghurt is farly high carb for breakfast, maybe mix some cream in it.

Also I added liver support supplement (liver support tea is also available) it helps the production and movement of bile.

Also cramps could be a sign of magnesium deficiency, IBS or dehydration.

Increase your magnesium and potassium.

I get very bad cramps in my legs and must take these regularly. From time to time I will also drink a powerade zero or propel water, but these do have artificial sweeteners. Salty soup broth is also good.

Don’t underestimate just how major of a change your body is going through right now!!

But is leg cramps and stomach cramps the same?

Nope hunger has dropped dramatically. Before keto I used to get hungry at least 5 times a day now I don’t get hungry till early in the night.

Not necessarily. Stomach cramps can also be from a digestive issue/ discomfort. Not to be gross, but it was 6 weeks before my BMs went back to normal.

But keeping your hydration, sodium and potassium/ magnesium levels on keto is super important. Your kidneys are expelling lots of water and sodium right now. Very, very important. And the digestive track will go whack if you are dehydrated (and you need more than just water to keep your body balanced).

Might need some dietary potassium. A little avocado?

small container bowl miso…9 carbs.
