It is far more important to count sheep than calories, carbs, protein or fat when trying to lose body fat. Count those other things if you must but don’t forget to get good, quality sleep.
Counting Sheep
I have had a difficult time sleeping for most of my life. Then of course having had my first child twelve years ago didn’t help things. I would always wake up around 2 or so and be up for a couple of hours and then the next day I feel awful. I have never taken prescription sleep meds but I listened to a podcast a while ago with Doc Parsely, he makes this supplement called Sleep Remedy. It is the ONLY thing that helps me sleep without feeling groggy the next day. It’s a bit pricey but worth every penny to me!
Hi @tdseest. How would you define good, quality sleep? I wake a couple of times in the night but don’t have much trouble going back to sleep.
I use my FitBit to track sleep stages
Which FitBit do you have? I have the Zip and I can’t track sleep.
I have Flex2 which tracks sleep. I also use an app called Sleep Cycle on my IPhone.
I have the fitbit Surge and it is awesome! It even grabs my naps. I never realized how awful my sleeping was until I started tracking it. I really like that I can sink my sleep patterns with my food eaten, calories and caffeine for the day.
@Goal179 and @Ruthanne_Robertson - hmmm, looks like I have a bit more research than I originally thought.
I don’t actually define it. Others here are pointing you down the path. In my case, I track it with my Apple Watch. Every problem in life is magnified when you have heart issues like I do. And, this is currently very important, as sleep impacts my overall health so much at this point.
Here it is. Much cheaper and more accurate then the apple watch. And the bands switch up to keep your look fresh. Bands are only about $10 each.
You can never get wrong with Fitbit, I have the Charge 2. But the Huawei Band 2 Pro is a full feature fitness tracker at half the price ($70), and it’s sleep algorithm is slightly better.
That is a really nice looking watch. Officially in the market for a new FitBit device.
Thank you @4dml. Do you happen to know why the Blaze is more than the Charge 2?
@tdseest Thanks for your response. Let me start by saying that I listened to the Dudes podcast (twice back-to-back) and I wanted to thank you for sharing your story! What a journey you have had. All the best as you move ahead.
I don’t have your health issues but I’m one of those people who has said in the past that “sleep is overrated.” I don’t believe that anymore but I’ve had so many problems that I am not clear what a good sleep means.
Blaze is an actual smart watch that does messages, emails, controls music, etc while charge 2 is just a tracker.
I’ve been promised one of the new FitBit ionic smart watches for Christmas…
Have a read of a book called Sleep Smarter by Shawn Stevenson. It’ll interest you.
Blaze is an actual smart watch …
Helpful clarification. I appreciate that info. So much to learn.
Sleep Smarter isn’t available at my local library - I just checked . I’ll have to put it on my Goodreads wishlist.
