Costco Question/Assistance, Please

#1

Ok, I need some Costco help, please. There is a Costco in my area, and I am considering joining but ONLY if they have what I need and I can justify the member fee.
:::BACKGROUND::: I had really bad stroke last December. STILL not driving yet. Let’s just say not able to work. You can imagine the moths that have taken up residence in my wallet.
Not married. No family. No church affiliation. A few friends will drive me a few places on occasion, but after nearly a year, it’s getting much much less, and now accompanied by lectures, sermons, complaints, and one “friend” who told me they (he & his wife) love me, but they didn’t sign up for a lifetime of driving me around.
Welcome to the sunny, charitable south, y’all.
So this is what I need help with. Can someone who is already a member sign in using my local store as their store and look to see that they actually carry the things I would buy? We could do it by email or here, either way. And no, the only person I know who has a Costco membership is the lovely “drive you around” couple. I wouldn’t get the truth from them.
I would REALLY appreciate the help! It’s no big hurry, since I’m now being told it could take up to six more months to have accommodations installed in my car so I could start driving myself.
Thanks so much, y’all!

Each Costco has slightly different items, so it’s best to call the store directly with your list and see what they have. The items available online are not as extensive as those found in the store, so you will get more accurate info this way.

Also, we have regularly bought a few items for friends who don’t have memberships. So once you get a list of available items, I imagine you could find someone to pick them up for you.

It’s not like you’re buying a house, a car or some other huge investment. It’s $60 for a year and you can add-on another person to your account. Maybe you could get a friend or family member to split the membership fee with you & you both get a Costco card. I’d say it’s a pretty good deal when you consider how much you save buying in bulk instead of buying over priced smaller packaged items from the grocery store. I personally love Costco, I go there twice a month and they have tons of keto friendly foods there.

To be honest, I think a single person might have a hard time dealing with the Costco sizes, unless you could find someone to split things with,

I feel like you didn’t even read what I wrote. $60 per year is beyond me if I cannot justify the price. Also, no family (in OP). Thanks for understanding.

I can see what Sam’s has. This really is about finding out what they actually have there, not the sizes. I had a feeing this was going to backfire and I wouldn’t be able to get what I need. Thanks anyway. I do really appreciate it!

It’s true each Costco is different even in the same city. The site doesn’t really show what you would find at your local store. I wonder if you called the Costco and asked to talk to the manager and explained your situation if they could accommodate your needs. Even if they have what you want at one point, they do change their stock, although certain staples can be counted on. If I lived near you, I would certainly help you out. I live in Kansas City.

Thanks, Sondra, I appreciate the suggestion!

I’m mostly interested in the avocado oil. Ive tried calling. Less than helpful. They say they are busy and to come out and just see what they have. Sigh. Think I better set it aside for now and see when (or is it if?) I can drive again. Thanks so much for the offer!

Thanks everyone for helping! I really do appreciate it so much!

Check with customer service, but I’m pretty sure you can get a refund on your membership if you find that they don’t carry enough things to make it worth it for you. They are really, really good about stuff like that.

Maybe Amazon Prime would be worth looking into, in your situation? There’s an Amazon Pantry program, but I don’t know the details.

I’ve never been in a Costco. We had a Sams Club membership, but the sizes were so large I was unable to use stuff up before it expired.

Hope you are able to get more mobile, soon. If the ‘friends’ situation gets to be too stressful, I’d look into using Uber. The times we have used them, they have always been quick to arrive and very polite, with clean vehicles. The payment is made through the phone, so no money physically changes hands.

I second Amazon. amazon for most things prices are the same if not better and it comes straight the the door. I started buying my oils from nakedsupplements.com can usually get a 20% off code makes the prices per ounce the best I’ve come across when you buy by the gallon. I go with avacado and hemp. Looking to try the almond. Only thing you’ll need are the perishables and sams/Costco prices are ok but if you shop the ads you should be able to do as good or better almost every week. But like you said you need the logistics of getting around sorted out first. Uber/lyft are good options. Good luck

Thanks so much! I’ve got to set it aside for now, but I will definitely check customer service first before doing anything after the holidays when I can look into this again!

I love Prime. I don’t love some of the prices though. They go up every new order.

#15

Thanks so much!! I know I’ll eventually get this sorted out but in the meantime it’s rough!

Try Thrive Market. Several podcasters have coupon deals on the first order, first month is free and shipping can be free.
Their prices are a bit lower than other places.

Costco is good for better fuel prices.

Hi! I’m a huge costco advocate. I started as a member before being employed by them (13 yrs). I’m a membership manager in MI. You can go into any Costco and have a look around before joining. There are marketing sign up deals as well. Go in, take a look around, you won’t be disappointed. If at anytime you want to cancel your membership, you can get a full refund. 100% satisfaction. We are now the top organic retailer in the nation

Have a friend with a membership buy a gift card for you. Give them $25 to get a $25 card then use it to enter and see what they have.

I was going to say this too. My understanding is a gift card will get you in and you can even buy more than what your gift card allows and pay for it. I did this with my sister and went there but didn’t find anything I wanted. I had a Sam’s Club membership but as a single person, I would not pay out of pocket (I had gotten it for free) because it just wasn’t worth the money and I find much better savings on most things at Market Basket and Shaw’s. The one thing I did love about Sam’s was how cheap their prosciutto was, but I can get it cheap at Aldi’s as well.

If you’re still considering this, I can answer a lot of Costco questions for you as I work there.

Here’s the number one reason I think Costco is a safe bet for you. Your membership is satisfaction guaranteed. So even up to the 364th day of the year, if you decide you aren’t getting your value out of it, all you have to do is go to the membership desk and request a full refund. That’s it.
