Are you counting total carbs or total net carbs. How is it working for you?
How many total carbs are you eating a day, how many net carbs are you eating a day?
Just wondering i was counting total carbs, however my net is always much below 20 carbs as is my total carbs. Last night however I had about 25 total carbs but my net carbs was still way under 20 . I know that ketone strips aren’t the best at being reliable but it still picked up a trace. So I would guess I’m still in ketosis even though the color is much much lighter than usual.
Either way just wondering what everyone else is doing
Controversy ..just wondering
When I first started I was counting total carbs and then found out the difference. So now I eat about 25 net carbs a day and I am still losing weight with that.
I don’t track anymore but when I did it was net carbs. It works for most as far as I know, but some need to go by total. It’s whatever works for the individual.
I kinda think the reason people don’t bother counting all the carbs is because carbs that are fiber are mostly indigestible. If you really want to count the fiber as part of the carbs, you can. I don’t think the fiber would be likely to count for much, though.
I count “relative net carbs.” A relative net carb is one that affects me. I have found that some types of sugar alcohols, fibers, etc., do cause a rise in insulin or sugar. I test glucose and ketones after eating new things. I’ve found that there is a much higher likelihood of carbs affecting me when there are more of them. So if I see something marked as 30g carbs, but 24g fiber, I try to stay away, since I am likely to get some kind of reaction from the 24g fiber. I am less worried if I see 10g carbs, but 4g fiber.
I try to stay under 20g relative net.
Total for me when I was keto (zero carb now), because fat loss was way too slow even when doing net 20. I think everyone’s threshold is slightly different though.
Yeah decided to go keto because I had a baby 7 months ago and while I have lost all the weight (now weigh 118 and I’m 5’2) my body fat is still a whopping 27-28 % and I desperately want it around what it was before (20%) while I don’t want to really lose much weight I’m finding it really hard to get my body proportioned right haha so watching total carbs. However I’m not sure if it makes much of a difference if your watching net or total. Idk learning process I guess haha
What foods do you find don’t affect you? I imagine things like avocado?
Over the past 30 days my carbs averaged 21 total and 11 net. I just subtract the fiber but I don’t really eat anything with sugar alcohols in it. I try to stay under 20 net however it seems like I am naturally just staying right around 20 total anyway. That’s probably because of the OMAD eating I’m doing. Most of the days I was higher seem to be due to one of two things… Avacados, or nut butters. I am pushing the nut butters out as i have portion control issues with them (none of my spoons are big enough). If I did this towards the start of my Keto woe then I’m sure it would be much higher total carb average… probably around 35 and net carbs would be closer to 20.
How is it working for you? What kind of foods are you eating? It’s hard to eat 20 total carbs and not overdue your protein haha so would love some advice
It’s hit or miss. Avocados don’t affect me much. I used to eat those low-carb wraps a lot. I found that some would raise my sugar way up, despite bing only 6 net carbs. Others didn’t affect me at all. I don’t even bother with the wraps anymore. I pretty much gave up substituting low-carb versions of things for stuff I used to eat. I think that is what affected me most–added fiber to make a low-carb version of something. I can tolerate allulose though quite well. So I do eat quest cereal bars as “emergency rations” when I travel someplace and am uncertain if edible food (for me) will be served.
Same - I don’t mess with keto-fied things much either. I find I crave less. Though sometimes I do make 90 second bread with coconut flour, because…eggs benedict.
Let’s slow down and think about this.
You weigh 118 pounds, correct?
At that weight, it’s probably going to take a fight to get “proportioned”. Unless you get into heavy lifting and build some muscle. Sort of body re-composition.
It won’t be easy.
yeah I’m a weight lifter already. Well was before my son and now for the past 3 months have been able to get back into it as I was breast feeding and wanted to keep producing milk for him- but yeah that’s the issue. Not sure if I lost the weight to fast or what, I’m a pretty good athlete gym 4 days a week with heavy lifting (working on building up the amount I was at before) however I’m not really sure I’m aspects of to cut calories? Well why would i do that if I don’t want to lose weight haha or just cut my carbs and work out like a mad man. I’m in a confusing limbo and not sure what to do about it lol
Sounds like you already know what to do BUT you must give yourself enough time. There’s no point in stressing. Don’t get desperate, stay calm, results will come.
4 days of lifting and a baby, are you recovering sufficiently from the lifting sessions?
Sleeping enough? All these variables affect results.
Keep Calm and Keto on. Rome wasn’t built in a day
Huh well my plan is like this
Monday upper body
Tues lower body
Wed rest and cardio
Thur upper body
Fri lower
Sat rest
Sunday cardio
I have a pretty good baby I get anywhere from 6-8 hours of sleep a night
Your probably right though. Just need to give myself more time. And I did use the military method getting my body fat haha so probably a bit lower anyway
