Thanks for sharing your experience. At this point right now (only 6 weeks into keto) I don’t know if implementing fasting is my best option? perhaps when I get more fat adapted fasting can be a tool that I will implement.

Maybe fat fasting would be a good place to start. Have you seen this blog post? Vey helpful -

For some folks, wanting to fast seems to be a natural side effect of keto. Sometimes it just feels right - it may take a while to get to that point. I started keto 2/3/2017. Did my first 24 hour fast on 2/10 which was the longest I had ever gone without food. Started a 7 day fast on 2/15. I was very surprised how easy it was to fast. I’ve lost more than 60 pounds so far and probably have 30-40 more, so I’ve got enough BF to spare.

But the flip side - My husband is HFLC and between 6-7% BF. He loses weight on just protein and fat and needs carbs to not waste away to nothing.

Self-experimentation is your best bet. Try different things and see what happens! Good luck.

Some people have been using a feat/fast protocol where you have a feast day where you eat moderately above your calorie needs then fast. This should hopefully ramp up your metabolism on the feast day and keep your metabolism from dropping too much on the fast.

It also can help break the fear of eating too much and gaining fat. It is also good to switch things up. The body is very good at adjusting to anything that you consistently do. For example, if you eat every day at the same time, your body will start to produce insulin before that time every day to prepare for the food that it knows is coming. Similarly, if you are always in a caloric deficit, your body will adjust to that by either making you more hungry and/or lowering your metabolism. The nice thing about keto is that if you can access your body fat (i.e. insulin and blood glucose are low) then you aren’t really in caloric deficit because your body will just burn some body fat to make up the deficit. But it is still a good idea to change things up sometimes. Feast/fast or intermittent fasting are good strategies for that.

Best of luck. I look forward to the day when I am worried about getting down to single digit body fat.
