Conference Food

As an experiment I requested Ketogenic in the ‘other’ field as special meal at a Microsoft conference this week. The first day they gave me chicken with potatoes and fruit salas on the side. I talked to the caterer explaining what I needed. Today is the last day and I was given a green salad and braised beef with a cup of olive oil. He also mentioned that several people also have been asking for the same thing. I’m glad I didn’t stuck my head in the sand by going elsewhere for lunch and bringing up the issue with the caterer. By the looks of it I was not the only one.

I call this progress.

Congratulations for asking for and eventually getting what you want. Thank you also for raising awareness. I’m glad the caterer was open to new diets. I’ll be asking for keto on flights!

Thanks. I even complimented the caterer for looking up what I (we) was talking about and being more educated. Not everyone will be that open but today I learned that we need to try.

I think it’s wonderful that you asked and even better that the caterer really tried to accommodate. You should share where the conference was held because they deserve more business!

Nice! on both accounts…you asking and others asking!

Well done. Never harm in asking right?

Cool, maybe some day a Keto convention???

I’ve had great success simply saying before a conference that I’m on a medically restricted diet and have food allergies (true). I tell them what I can and cannot eat and most hotels/caterers have been fairly good about helping me stay on plan.

At the last conference I attended, while everyone else was eating cheap cereal and sausage biscuits, every morning I had cooked to order bacon and eggs. All I had to do was ask. Lunch and dinner was usually some kind of meat with a vegetable or salad. If it seemed too low in fat, I grabbed some butter packets near the bread tray.

Be polite, but insistent about your needs, and remember to thank everyone who helps you.

I just registered for a conference at a fancy hotel in Orlando. I ticked the box for “other” under special dietary needs and wrote in “Keto / Ketogenic”. We’ll see what happens in August.
