Chicken/buffalo wings from restaurants

question. I got chicken wings (buffalo) wings from my local pizza… it looks like they put some kind of coating on them that might be breaded? Not sure why they do this…

Have you run across this? Do you just ask if the wings they make have a coating? Thoughts appreciated!

Most places have either boneless or bone in wings. USUALLY, not always, the boneless ones are coated and the bone in ones are cooked without a coating, brushed with some of the hotsauce mixture and given an additional dose just before serving. I personally thing that is the ONLY way one should be allowed to make/sell them.

When in doubt ask. I have seen them on menus where they serve both and the bone in ones are called naked wings.

A lot of restaurants use corn starch to help the sauce stick, even on the bone-in wings. I usually don’t worry too much, but if you want as low carb as possible, order the wings naked with sauce on the side.

Yep. Ask if they bread and ask if there’s sugar in the sauce. As a hot wing fiend from way back, I’ve been burned on breading and I’ve been burned on weird sweet hot sauces.

Yea, we always stay away from the boneless wings, they are usually breaded. If we are looking for bone in wings, we always ask the server if there is a breading on them before deciding. If they are breaded, we pass on the wings.

You gotta find places that do naked wings. Or just make them at home yourself. Check the air fryer thread. I think there was a whole convo there shout wings.

Boneless are just chicken fingers rolled in Buffalo wing sauce.

Lots of wing places bread their wings - it gives the appearance that the wings are much bigger (and a lot cheaper than selling you actually bigger wings).

As others have stated, you need to ask if they bread or not - most places will let you order your wings naked / un-breaded.

If you like the heatness level, both Frank’s as well as Louisiana hot sauce are 0’s across the board except for the Sodium.
