Just started Keto again yesterday, I dabbled in Keto last year and had decent results but fell off the wagon. Anyways, I’m back on and just want to make sure I’m not missing anything. This was day one, and was wondering if this looks O.K or not. The 2 grams of sugar came from my bacon, is the 2 grams going to prevent me from going into Ketosis? Everything I read is all about carbs and keeping them under 20, while eliminating as much sugar as possible but I’ve yet to find a number threshold (I.E under x). I also just found this forum so I’m excited to read up! Thanks guys and gals!
Check my nutrients please!
Keep carbs low and you will do fine. Don’t forget to increase salt intake. Your carb numbers look great.
Welcome, Chris. First you are correct that most recommend shooting for just staying under 20g carbs a day. This is to ensure that folks will go into Ketosis. But as you know, we are all different, and some can indeed tolerate more and some less… But keeping carbs under 20 is generally a good bet, especially in the beginning. … As to sugars, just try to eliminate then as much as possible. Maybe find some Bacon that doesn’t have added sugars, or as low as you can find. Staying with whole foods and avoiding any process foods is also quite helpful, and avoids eating stuff with hidden carbs in it too.
In my opinion Chris it doesn’t matter about 2g. of sugar. It’s negligible. Even green vegetables have similar amounts of sugar. Your sample macro count looks spot on. And 2g. of sugar won’t keep you out of ketosis for sure. You don’t have anything to worry about. Notice a lot of the sugar content ends up caramelized in the skillet I used to eat that stuff until I realized it’s mostly charred sugars.
Thanks everyone for the feedback! I do plan on switching my bacon to one that isn’t partially cured in sugar when I run out of the stuff I have, I was just hoping I didn’t have to throw it away!
Nope, you don’t so enjoy it! Some do indeed enjoy their Bacon that also shows to have a little sugar. But if you can find one that doesn’t, that’s even better, but surely not a necessity. Like David says, you will find sugar in all sorts of things, we just try to avoid it whenever we can, or as much as we can.
