Celebrating fall without carbs

(Liz Ellen) #1

This is my first fall without being on carbage, and I have to admit that I am struggling. Fall is my favorite season, but much of my celebration in the past has involved baking and sweets. This weekend, I decorated my house for Halloween (a high holy day for me), but I have to admit I’m feeling a little wistful. I’m trying to remind myself that fresh sourdough and pumpkin muffins got me up to the border of diabetes in the first place. And, I will be making plenty of keto-friendly stews this fall and winter.

I’m curious – how do you celebrate fall without pumpkin spice lattes and cinnamon scones?

I use pumpkin pie spice in my coffee with hwc and if I want something to eat with it. I have a bunch of recipes for pumpkin muffins. Here is a good one, but there are dozens out there.

I like whipping cream and putting pumpkin pie seasoning on top. It’s great with a cup of tea with cream and a bit of sweetener. You got this! Plus, your stews sound like they’ll be delicious.

I know what you mean, I always struggle at Christmas, the trick I have found is that you need to replace a tradition with a new one that you do every year. So if you make your sour dough bread usually, find a keto alternative that is even more delicious (even if it is not related) and really make a big deal out of it. Go for a walk, light candles and anything else that makes you feel attached to the season. It will get easier every year as you bed in the new tradition.

I use that too, in my coffee.

I have had good luck with picking one holiday food and just allowing that, a different one for each holiday. Really just enjoying that one thing and otherwise, eating as usual.

I am also working on finding one non food related activity around the holidays that I didn’t do before and make that activity important enough to really get into it and not think of foods I might feel I am “missing out on.”

It seems to have worked well for me.

This came up in my feed today, links to the muffins, pie, and a crumb cake on this blog. All low carb pumpkin pie spice oriented, should take care of any craving for PPS.
