CBD oil with statins

(Pat) #1

I ordered some CBD oil for my husband who has diabetes and has just been diagnosed with cancer on his kidney. Our son and daughter have been encouraging my husband to try it as they say it helps with sleep, relaxing, stress, pain and cancer etc., after some googling though we find that it’s not recommended for people who take medication that has a warning against consuming grapefruit which is a warning on one of his medications. Has anyone else come across this?
My husband did ask his doctor about taking cbd oil but he said that’s only for people who are in extreme pain and where no other painkillers have worked. I’m not sure the dr understood what my husband was asking about.
My husband is not in pain but the cancer is playing on his mind and he just wants to be able to sleep well.
I’d appreciate your thoughts or experiences with CBD oil.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #2

My dad uses CBD oil for his arthritis pain. So far as I know, it hasn’t helped his sleep problems any. He’s still complaining about being up all night.

Your title mentions statins, but your post does not. I’m not sure where they fit into the picture. But there is a great deal of discussion about statins on these forums, so if you do a search, you are likely to find more information than you can absorb. The search function on this site is pretty effective.

Ya, Doc was an idiot on that one. That’s just BS. CBD isn’t going to hurt anything, it’s great stuff. If you can get full Hemp oil it’s even better since you get all the canabanoids in there. The grapefruit thing is real, grapefruit can speed up the absorbtion of many meds so when they’re time released you’ll get hit with way more of it at once. Many people do that on purpose with lots of things, but for some meds it wouldn’t be a good idea.

I’d also recommend looking into Delta8 THC gummies, best thing for sleep I’ve ever used, they’re typically marketed just for that.

I tried Delta-8 and felt like I was tripping balls…

My original title was CBD oil, but I had to add statin to make it an original title. The grapefruit warning is for statin meds.

Hi Pat. I’m on a CBD oil trial to treat polyarthritis after a medication adverse reaction last year.

I have a twice day dose. The morning dose is THC free, the evening dose is 5% THC. THC is the part of cannabis that gets people stoned. The oil part is medium chain triglyceride. I eat a very low-carb diet and aim for generating some blood ketones, as I find that the medications work better when I have higher blood ketones. But I have been on the ketogenic diet for 7 years, so generating higher blood ketones is challenging.

I have been on CBD oil for two months. It is a medical trial, so I have to track and report. At the start it did make me feel a bit strange, and I had to have a few afternoon naps. Now, things are fine. I sleep well every night.

I have a list of other supplements to take. the main one being magnesium citrate twice daily.

The regimen and ketogenic diet have been a good combination, and I’m getting back to normal physical activity and mental capacities now, almost pain free.

Haha, gotta MAKE SURE you go to sleep before it hits! That stuff don’t play, dream/hallucinate whether you’re awake or not… IT’S COMING!

Confused as to what Delta8 is. I have seen it sold locally and although marijuana is legal, it cannot be sold legally in my state but why are they able to sell this? If it causes hallucinations then how it is legal?

I wasn’t even game to ask… steering well clear! :joy::joy:

I would recommend Charlotte’s web CBD tincture. CBD affects people differently, but most get a relaxing sensation and there is pain relief for some.

Hi all, thanks for all your replies they have been helpful.
After much googling/researching we have decided not to use the cbd oil as it will interact with our medications. I’m disappointed as I thought it would help my husband, he doesn’t admit it but I know he is worried about his condition as it plays on his mind.
Thank you again

Delta8 is legal everywhere, it’s a synthetic THC from what I understand, still grown, but the plant itself was made. I don’t get hallucinations from it but I know some do, it’s pretty strong crap. Think of what alcohol does! They’ve tried targeting it before but failed, don’t really remember why. But with more and more states legalizing weed despite Washington’s crap, I think they’re realizing they’re just not winning that fight and putting that on the back burner.

Thank you. So is this a GMO then?! Or am I misunderstanding. Also when I did a search I also saw HHC and Delta 9, any idea what those are? I assume on all of them you cannot or should not be driving? Are there warnings about that?

#14

I’d think it would have to be at that point, anything synthetic / hybridized would be. HHC is Hydrogenated THC, Delta 9 is just another variant. Definitely wouldn’t drive on them anymore than you would after any THC containing product.

#15

Like in transfat?!

(Bob M) #16

Probably different as transfat is adding hydrogen to fat (a hydrocarbon), whereas I have no idea what THC actually is. The process might be similar, though.

#17

Yup, same process, extra hydrogen molecule, it’s just not fat.

I hope you and your husband are doing well. I know this thread is a year old, but I wanted to share some information in case you’re still interested in CBD oil. While it’s true that CBD can interact with certain medications, including some statins, the risk is generally low. However, it’s always a good idea to consult with a healthcare provider before starting any new supplement or making changes to your current medication regimen. In terms of using CBD for sleep and relaxation, many people find it helpful. Other natural remedies can promote better sleep, such as chamomile tea, magnesium supplements, and meditation. https://www.mindbodygreen.com/articles/heres-what-makes-this-200-year-old-heirloom-best-cbd-for-relief has some great articles on these topics if you’re interested.

Hi Pat,
I was taking CBD oil til about a month ago. I was put on it because I have a serious adverse reaction to opiate painkillers.
Here in Oz CBD is quite pricey, both for the doctor consult and the prescription.

I found it helpful for pain but I switched to another medication low dose Naltrexone which has even more generalised benefits.

Was advised this week by a doctor who is very informed to ditch the Naltrexone and get back onto the CBD (for controlling my pain from bad osteo arthritis). I had no illl effects in the year I was taking CBD oil…the one I took had THC in it, the doctor found me very stable when she screened me and she felt the one with THC may address my high inflammatory markers better.

I since learned about uric acid levels being dropped by Quercetin, so am heading back to the CBD oil in a week or so is the plan.

thank you we are okay but will be better when we know what’s going on with my husband which will be on Monday after we get the results from his PET scan.
We didn’t take the CBD oil as the information we had regarding taking it with statins and blood pressure medication was a bit scary. thanks for the information you provided it’s helpful.
