Carnivores March into March :)

My hubby and I talk about this all the time! My son is 21 and my daughter is 15. They are required to make their own meals. I will shop for the ingredients, but they have to prepare them. Sometimes it makes me feel like a lazy parent, but they need to learn life skills, right ?

We can’t wait until there is only meat in the house. Hubby is carnivore, but still struggles. All of my cravings are gone, so I don’t have an issue, but it will be nice to not open a cupboard and see unhealthy food.

Carnivore life is going well. I have really settled into eating mostly beef and eggs. Occasionally I’ll have a small pork medallion or some tuna. For the most part, I have given up my decaf coffee w/ ghee. It was a daily habit, that no longer interested me.

@Septimius I have been doing my own modified version of the exercise program that you shared with me. I do that 3 days a week and spend 30 minutes on my Schwinn Airdyne 3 days a week, with Friday being my rest day. I think I’m getting stronger?

@karen18 I thought about what you said that I may be overeating (in realtion to my amount of exercise), so I’ve resorted to tracking everything and have found that I can be fully satiated on 2000-2200 calories per day as opposed to my previous 2400-2800. I know that carnivore isn’t about CICO, but I found my clothes getting tighter and the scale creeping up, so I had to make a change. I have also finally got my complete sense of taste back after my bout with COVID (woohoo!) , so I am no longer relying on salt and processed foods to make meals palatable. The scale has gone down about 4 pounds, so I’ll take it, even though I know a lot of that was inflammation.

I don’t post often, but visit the forum daily, so thank you for everyone who takes the time to post. It is great to hear how everyone is doing!

Yay for nice marbled meat!

I dropped tracking on the first day (at meal 3 at night. I just can’t seem to be able to do TMAD. at least not with little protein like 87g). I couldn’t track today anyway, I eat the fattier, chewier “possibly cat food” parts of my beef heart! It’s nice, I cooked A LOT (2 hours filled with stuff… and a tiny workout and kitten petting, Snugglepie totally stayed) and just can’t imagine not having lunch.
Nice heart, it has some special flavor I don’t get from other things… Even the hard fat became lovely but it’s too fatty so maybe I will eat my share of proper heart (I fried the good parts separately), Alvaro will have it tomorrow but I need it now. It’s only 140g, just a tiny fun along my eggs and unusually much cheese.

Warm spring is here, very half-assed flower photos done, I will work on them later, the CF card is downstairs.

Yep, mostly simple dishes for me… I still complicate it when I eat every 2 eggs differently but I am better at it and they are super simple dishes anyway. Except my 4 cheese not-pizza rather sponge cake omelet… But that was nothing compared to Alvaro’s pizza and cheesy sticks. The heart took time but it was half-cooked, half-fried all alone, I just had to be nearby.
The problem was that I wanted to go out to the sunny spring! We badly need rain though and NOTHING in the forecast. We have an almost completely dry March :(. One small rain, maybe? Not good.

The 4 cheese omelet was very delicious! (And not totally carnivore, I still can’t imagine things with pizza top without a little pizza sauce… At least I don’t use the very carby pizza condiment mixed into the tomato sauce, I use a spicy pepper thing with less carbs and way less sweetness, yay. I can use just a tad and next time I will try to make proper cheesy omelets, without sauce. I may use a tiiiny condiment on top. the crust is fully carnivore, of course, eggs  it had 2 whites and 1 yolk and it turned out great.)

@Redrobins: I cooked at 13 but not all the time and only a few things. But a 15 years old should be big enough to be able to cook after some learning… I depended on Mom as she could go home almost whenever she wanted while I got home tired, hungry and with a headache at 3pm, I couldn’t start cooking then (and I didn’t have the good idea of eating scrambled eggs for lunch as the first course). But our woe never was extremely different. At some point I was a vegetarian and she wasn’t but that was easy, she cooked vegetarian food only (maybe not on holidays, I don’t remember) and had meat and mostly fat tissue for dinner and breakfast. We almost always had vegetarian food 6 times a week before that anyway.

It’s harder with bigger differences. At least Alvaro can eat some carnivore food, it makes my life easier. He eats animal stuff, even meat in moderation, isn’t very choosy and has no problem with much fat. After my several lower-meat days he is fine with meat and even cooks meat on the weekends. That’s good, that is the time when I theoretically don’t need to cook (I still do for some weird reason but I try to focus on not to) and it’s a bit disappointing when he merely spends, like, 4 hours on making 2 different big veggie dishes (taking all the pots and space in the fridge for cooked food… except roasts, they fit anywhere as the height is smaller). He never cooks pure meat dishes but our stews are good enough for me…
This weekend he will cook an eggs+veggies curry type dish on open fire (at least it’s protein rich and tasty, at least I liked it in the past. still too carby). I will do something about meat. I would like to get some pork thigh and marry it to the bacon… I visit the butcher tomorrow.

I hid my coffees and I don’t like them anyway, not even the more hidden tastier one… Okay, maybe that, a little… I had one coffee today for reasons but I try to do zero. At least until my first meal.

Absolute beaut!

Aww well done Heather. I am sure your new calorie level will be just as good for you even though ‘we don’t count cals here’ lol. I don’t do any tracking now and its a freedom I am loving. I think it the Autism in me that likes to write everything down but going Carni, well, that put an end to atleast one of my tracking traits. I don’t care how many cals i eat though I suspect I don’t eat as many as some on here … it really is an individual thing and we just have to find what suits us best. If I feel lethargic I know I have to eat some steak, sometimes I have hungry days and sometimes I don’t, I have listened well to @Fangs and just listen to what my body wants hahaha.

Interesting question and thought process. In my case, I think I would argue I do not have ordered eating, but then again, it is very orderly! I decide well in advance what I am eating (sometimes days) to make sure it is thawed and ready to go on time (if possible, sometimes I forget or get lazy). Whatever I decide to eat for the day, I typically eat all the organ meats with my first meal - not because I care that much to get them done first, but because I often eat dinner at my daughters place and she has had multiple issues (lie anorexia) and I do not want her to be affected/grossed out by my meals. I also though like to get the healthier vitamins into my meals early so I know I am not missing anything if I end up missing a meal later.
Regardless of what I am eating that meal, I always eat the “least favorite or least appetizing” part of the meal first. So yesterday I ate all the kidney and liver first (paired each mouthful to mix up the flavours since kidney is hard to eat), after eating those I ate the good tasting Thymus. If I have a salmon steak and a ribeye, I will eat the salmon first (I prefer the ribeye). By eating in this way I always seem to find that stomach space to squeeze in all the food since my favorite foods are last. It also makes sure I get the least favorite (and usually healthier) foods in before I lose interest.
I would say not an eating disorder because if paid or for special occasions, I could easily skip the lesser preferred foods for more ribeye steaks

Up just before 8.30 after a not so bad sleep. Up to the loo a few times but thats normal for me, I managed to drift back to sleep each time. Strange dreams but nothing that left me questioning. Stair runs done and CrossFit done. Weight training and a cv/ wts workout.

Home and brunch around midday 2 pork chops and 4 rashers of bacon.then sat outside. Put two 8nsext hotels up and read the instructions for putting the parasol up. Definitely need a se one pair of hands for that but got a good idea of what needs doing. Enjoyed doing not a lot, read up on all the posts on here, did a few cross and code words and then the sun starting going down and I was getting a tad bit chilly. It was a shorts and T day, lovely sunshine 17° so not bad for this time of year. Its in for the weekend and wouldn’t you know this coming weekend when I will be at work
Not to worry I am sure there will be ple ty more nice days to come and i need my parasol up arggghh.

While I was sitting out I popped the oven on and chucked in some hot Buffalo wings. They were quite tasty but won’t hold me so will have some scrambly eggs later.

Sounds logical to me  Hungry me are fine with things I wouldn’t like later.

My stomach space is no problem, I probably could eat 2-3 times as much, carni food is dense. Only the calories/macros stop me. Sometimes I wonder about volume eaters, it’s foreign to me. Alvaro says volume matters to him (but he tends to automatically eat the same amount of calories , he just can’t get satiated with a smaller amount of dense food like me) but he isn’t an extreme volume eater who gets satiated with volume or something like that. The diet advice about eating very low-cal items always baffled me. I don’t work like that but it seems some do.

Apropos ordered eating, today I accidentally ate organs first. The fatty part of the beef heart. It was great but too fatty so I paired it up with leaner stuff (I just can’t eat lean or very fatty most of the time, I always want to balance it out to get my 65% or close).

But… I did a huge mistake. Meat first. For lunch. On a low-meat day…
I ended up being hungry 1 hour after lunch and not wanting my eggs (I barely had any for lunch but it doesn’t matter). And I went for a long walk  It was a bit starving but I enjoyed being outside, saw many birds.
(Still had mostly eggs but in a non-carnivore day as I saw no other options. I didn’t even want bacon. Or sausage. Definitely not even more cheese, I need a break. And sour cream can’t do much to my hunger. The salmon spread didn’t cross my mind but I am bored of it anyway. Etc.)

Tomorrow I will do it better. (First of all, get some pork!)

@Karen18, how can you do such extremely beautiful wings? I understand spices and sunshine and whatnot but STILL

I was in the food pic thread and everyone make beautiful photos. I feel inferior and well, I am and it’s fine, it’s not my goal to be awesome at it… I grown out of my perfectionism  it’s good enough others spoil my aesthetic sense and something probably related to my low-meat times… When I was bored of meat, I didn’t like meat photos. Normally I do but now I am super sensitive. And still don’t feel I MISS meat, it’s just tricky without it. And some pork would be nice for sure.
I thought the heart is bigger but nope, it was tiny and Alvaro needs some for tomorrow. I nibbled his half a bit but it’s fine, he still can taste it  We can buy pork heart if he wants more, beef is hard to get but they are similarly good, only the harder beef fat is a unique thing but Alvaro wouldn’t like that. It was fun for me.

(Karen) #290

The wings were bought like that @Shinita, I just wing em in the oven securing the pun lol. I have thought I might just but plain wings next time and chuck my own spice on, I can make sure its only spice in them then. I don’t like sauce or anything like that… these are just cheap n easy. As for the pics I just make sure the phone camera lens is clean and click lol … sometimes the steam gets in the way and I have to re take buy most times I can get first take. I would love a proper camera but it would take me such an age to learn how to use it. I am such a techno dinosaur!

#291

Great photo then
And you didn’t burn them either, it’s not that trivial, I always could cook when I tried but made some charcoal in my life. Time and me… And old gas ovens…

It’s not too hard to get used to a camera, well at my level, I barely ever use most settings and Alvaro is the same. There are a few things but not many. I like to change the focus point sometimes, that’s useful, there are several options.
But nowaday’s phone cameras are pretty neat so “normal people” can get away with that in many cases. I need the macro lens for my macro photos with the awesome blurred backgrounds and I can put the object 2cm from the lens too… Once I made shots, my phones are never too elaborated, I mostly just use it as clock, alarm and playing music, I don’t care much, it’s sad I have a smartphone, I preferred the not smart ones which didn’t need charging every day or reset sometimes.
For scenery, my phone may be okay but if I want blurry backgrounds and stuff… Oh my. I made this 2 years ago (a tad less as these flowers only have leaves now, we checked, there will be so many soon!), phone vs proper camera with my fav macro lens. The flower was too close for the phone camera… I mentioned the wonderful blurring… And even the light was compensated, it was a bright spring day.

(Karen) #292

I just baked some bacon… never baked bacon before… I don’t like crispy bacon… I like crispy bacon …

(Judy Thompson) #293

@Redrobins how great your hubby’s also carnivore! Good to let the kids fix their own and I know it will be fantastic when they’re outta there and things are simpler. @Fangs so great to spend a few minutes cooking, a few minutes eating, and done! We go back to the VA house next week and will be tearing out the kitchen so just instant pot, mw and toaster oven for quite awhile there. I see a lot of ready made food in hubby’s immediate future. He’s relatively easy to please but still requires a mess of sides to my 1 little plate of meat :cut_of_meat:
@Shinita still no rain here either. Today we ran a hose from the neighbor’s water collection tank as ours is running out and they collect 35, 2500 gallon tanks! So at least there’s laundry and showers here until we travel.
I was wakeful lastnight, got up at 1 and read. Got Dr Shawn Baker’s carnivore book to read, loved reading his backstory.
Tummy was rumbling so I grabbed the leftover strips of chuck from our meal and ate them cold, in the dark, and they were fantastic.
This morning about 10 I was hungry again and flipped a few slivers of heart and 3 eggs along with a little slice of cheddar, hit the spot!
For our later lunch I seared the last of the chuck roast and put that yummy gravy over it.

(Linda ) #294

Lately I’ve been really happy just to eat my burgers but I make them with a meat patty 4 oz of rib eye a strip of sausage and mayo for extra fat on the pmsf bun I’ve been only omad for a few days plus my 2 egg coffee …

@Ketodaisy you been Missing for a few days hope you doing ok…

(Daisy) #295

Thanks Linda, we’ve had the stomach bug going through our house so I can’t look at food right now

#296

Why do days off never seem to go as planned?! (Face palm) Monday morning was the planned time to jump on here, read, and chat with you all. INSTEAD…giant puppy decided to run off, travel through the woods to the neighbor’s back yard and beyond. In my pajamas, coat and boots…I ran out of the house with her harness and leash, finally found her stalking the neighbor’s house/yard. Scared the poor guy inside, and had to first capture her- no small task, hold her still and get the harness on, then drag her home. Did I mention the high winds and 30F temp? So, 45 minutes later, we got home, and yeah. Not a good start. But, eats stayed on track- which is great.

So, EVERY TIME she has to go potty, I put the harness and leash on her and take her out. That was pretty much the extent of my days off. Now, we’ve had a pretty wicked ice storm overnight. EVERYTHING is closed here- except for a few stores-mine included- so, off to work. Not hungry. Not feeling even anxious about eating, so we could fast today. Have a great day all, and be safe!

I know it’s wrong…

#298

yea, ain’t right FB but :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

----------simple day here
rainy icky

making 12 chicken wings for today to munch when wanted
making a lb. meatloaf…just 2 eggs and meat…in oven and done for fridge to eat whenever.
got me a nice smaller ribeye to hound down later
got a lb. of bacon if wanted.

OK I AM covered well

(Karen) #299

@Ketodaisy hope you and your family get over the ummy bug real soon. X

@SecondBreakfast oooer I had to Google 30F to C lol long gone are the days we used fareinheit. You would think I would remember what i learnt in school but no haahah too long ago now. Not the best of starts to your day. What pup have you got? My daughter keeps trying to encourage me to get a pooch from the rescue centre and I keep telling her its not the right time. When she found out that if I get my ill health retirement I can be out of that job within a matter of a few weeks she said ooooh we can get your name down on the list at the rescue centre … just your name on the list lol as I am still protesting. She’s so sure i need a pooch for my well being but I am not lonely and I get plenty exercise … I think she maybe thinks that if I have a dog she won’t have to worry about me so much hahaha. When I am ready, but its such a huge commitment.

So another fairly good sleep night with just a few times to the loo but drifting back to sleep quickly. Be a different kettle of fish tonight cos I have an uber long shift tomorrow

I was going to see if there was a space on todays CrossFit but it was full which is the first time its been full for a number of days. God’s way of saying take a break lol. I have watched some daytime TV this morning and eaten 2 pork chops for lunch and now enjoying the lovely hot sun in the garden reading the forum posts and doing a few cross and codewords. Caught the sun yesterday so not intending to sit for too long. Nice to be in shorts these past 2 days.

#300

My half-assed garden flower photos in the super bright sunshine turned out not so good. So you get my pansies (those could be better too but you didn’t see the crocuses and daffodils…). I hope it’s okay  I LOVE pansies and buy some every spring and have them for several months!

The forest has a bunch of new yellow flowers now.

Finally, I bought meat! In the supermarket, it turned out they have an okay selection in a fridge… And they had turkey upper wings in the meat counter, yay! They always have a different selection but I am flexible. Anything but chicken. Duck or turkey is fine.

I bought pork shoulders (price  and anyway, I saw no chuck. it’s not much) and pork thigh. Both came in smallish slabs and I can’t even buy two of the latter as it has an anti-inflation price and people may do panic shopping so there are limits for the fixed priced items. One can’t buy more than 10kg table sugar - and more than 2 kgs of pork thigh. TWO. It’s, like, nothing for a proper family meal if it’s not a decoration on the carbs but the main food as it should. Even Alvaro thinks so. So I am a tiny bit upset now, it’s good I am okay with the fattier cut too.
I only bought 4.5 kg meat, just to ensure I won’t have problems until I go to the town again next week.
These limits are usually very generous (see the sugar…) but it’s very very tiny for the meat that is the kind of food one eats in proper amounts as it IS the food itself, the main thing.

It’s 4:24pm, I better go and start to prepare my first and possibly only meal

We have, like, 20C outside, I barely could run for a few seconds and I was dressed in summer clothes. I am not used to this hotness yet  But it’s actually great weather (except the lack of rain, of course).

(Robin) #301

Ugh. Sympathies!
