Carnivore 30-day Challenge - Meat Chewin' June 2024!

(Bean) #141

Turns out you can cook ground beef in a waffle iron.

(KM) #142

Lol. How was it?

(Bean) #143

It’s surprisingly good. It’s a burger, but with good texture if you like the crunchy maillard reaction.

(Geoffrey) #144

Well that’s peaked my interest.

(Robin) #145

Smarty pants! What a great idea!

(Doug) #146

:+1::slightly_smiling_face:

That ā€˜browned ground beef’ taste is great. There are times when I’ll eat a morsel or nugget of it, with some salt, and it’s the best thing in the world, as simple as it is.

(Liz ) #147

Crispy ground beef :yum: makes me sad I tossed my waffle iron lol

(Karen) #148

Did a lot of walking again today. Over 6 miles to beeston and back. Red hot today.

Had 2 fried eggs on 2 black pudding with cheese in middle at the cafe in Beeston. When i got home i had deli meat and cheese and followed that with buffalo spicy chicken wings.

(Bean) #149

This is the brand of my tiny waffle maker. It gets really hot. It was $10 (American) at my grocery. 3 oz is a good amount. The picture is 4 oz, and it was kind of messy.

(Liz ) #150

Ok, I had a food addiction urge to binge today so I bought 12oz of pastrami and heated it with provolone and added mustard. That feels like a win! Not the best food, right? But not totally off plan. I’m taking the W :medal_sports:

(Robin) #151

Exactly the sort of keto hacks I used in the beginning just to get me over the hump of cravings.

(Liz ) #152

Yes! Even though I’m an old hand I still use the early tricks when I need it.

From my extensive reading about addiction, I learned the folks most likely to recover and stay clean used replacements for drugs, at least at first, like methadone, (ie: my less harmful binge on a dirty carnivore item) and were part of recovery groups, (that’s y’all for me!)

Bear totem. Hug the cravings. I remember them. in the "Way Back’ (time).

You have a heavy caring load. While your body is in sympathetic drive the satiety will be hard to recognise. That means just stay on plan with no care for that goal. If @fangs was here they would say - stay on plan, eat all the meat, that is fine.

One day you will feel it. These days when I eat an 800g rib-eye I’ll be loving the experience and, for me, it’s like flipping a light switch, I just stop. Down the tools and say, ā€œI’m done.ā€ Absolutely no way would I take another bite. I just wrap up the remainder to chop into an eggs and butter breakfast. That satiety switch is also an indicator of having other lifestyle pillars sorted - stress, sleep, hydration, low-toxins, good social company, purpose, a sense of ā€˜belonging’, a pain-free drive to perform physical activity, sunshine, fresh-air, meditation, and art creation.

June has been a boon. July soon, are you up for the challenge?

(Liz ) #154

Thank you FB, all you say is so true. Plus I cannot emphasize enough the complete turmoil a woman can experience at the hormonal shift of her middle age! Hit me like a truck and knocked me a$$ over teakettle. All my careful habits and controls OUT THE WINDOW. So yeah, eat the meat, fret not, let the time pass. That’s my plan.

(Bean) #155

My go-to binge buster is beef or turkey bologna spread with something fatty. I can put away a lot if it, but it also makes the binge a one-and- done instead of a runaway train.

(Liz ) #156

Yes, perfect!! It’s such a relief to know I can fall into the binge behavior without the old binge consequences. All last evening I was full and skipped dinner. I had no more binge thoughts or urges. I’ll eat dinner tonight as usual, everything just fine!

(Judy Thompson) #157

Oh wow, looks like it’s been 2 weeks since I posted although I’ve lurked semi-successfully and have now read all the posts.
Is @Fangs actually gone or just taking a break? I miss her.
@LizinLowell I’m with you, doing this long term will require a gentle approach for me too. I’m 71 and have been Carni for 2½ years now. I only lost 40 of my 80 excess pounds but so many conditions have reversed. Inflammation is responsible for so much. Arthritis, sciatica, even balance has improved on its own. The weight has not come back which is a first. I took care of my mom too, who had Alzheimers and a serious attitude. We only lasted 17 months before having to take her to memory care (then she lived another 19 months). You are heroic to stay the course for 6 years! Being gentle with yourself while staying the course is the only way to go.

@MeganNZ have they gotten that nail out yet? You’d think there’d at least be a precedent for that. Loved @robintemplin’s magnet suggestion!

@Shinita tiny dinosaurs! Wonderful read! Also the guineas following @LizinLowell’s hubby around. Awesome!

@Karen18 I love your stories and pics. That pillow with Freddy is a beautiful thing! Sian is so thoughtful.

@Geezy56 your creativity is inspiring. I like the Guinea egg omelets! I did buy some panko but I don’t recall liking it that much before so it’s awaiting my next adventuresome day.

@FrankoBear I looked up Ostrogoths!

We’re back at the steakhouse strolling tables tonight, then the seafood restaurant tomorrow afternoon and again the Chophouse tomorrow night, and church Sunday morning; then the big nap! Probably will play the country pickers circle Sunday night so our DJ friend can see us and bring his dog.

Oh no, too long. I’ll start again with food.

(Judy Thompson) #158

This is the 2nd time KF has logged me out in the middle of posting, yesterday it did it when I was just reading posts. I must have hit something.

Food.

Our new tune this weekend is Jolene. So far we’re still arguing about what key to do it in. Although Dolly Parton released it in 1973 it’s been covered tons of times, the most recent being a top chart version by BeyoncĆ© in March 2024! So this tune should go over well.

(Liz ) #159

Thanks so much, I feel for you and what you went through. I’m lucky my mom doesn’t have dementia, but even with all that goes right, these years have worn heavy on me and my husband. I really appreciate the camaraderie of the keto and zero carb crew!

Hey Judy  If I didn’t have such a large, complex hernia being repaired soon, and if the junction of the large and small intestine where the object is stuck wasn’t up in the hernia on every x-ray and scan, the docs would have gone straight in and removed the dang thing. But I do and it was, unfortunately. There were discussions about where to make the incision but in the end they decided to leave it be unless it perforated my intestine. The 1st week home was a bit harrowing, like living with a ticking bomb, but no perforation yet so it may not happen at all. Or I’ve passed it, tho pain tells me I may not have. I’ll have another x-ray soon to find out if I have or not.
