Carbs in Beer

#1

20g carb in one bottle of IPA! Mama mia! Talk about a beer gut.
Guess it’s liquor and wine for me from now on (and since starting keto).

They do have low-carb beers, but I have never tried one.

(Carpe salata!) #3

You can’t beat a good IPA.

But for low carb beers, check out Bighead or pure blonde or Hahn superdry. They can get down to 1 or 2 carbs, Bigheead is ‘zero carb’.

Soda water is good too

Low carb beer is like low carb chocolate cake! What’s the point? :joy:
Although I don’t really crave either of them anymore. It must be that football watching is strongly linked with beer drinking in my brain.

Amen. Michelob ultra is to beer as a lemon slice in a glass of water is to lemonade

(Empress of the Unexpected) #6

Sorry everyone. Beer is what did me in. Wow, so mysterious!:rofl::rofl:. Had to switch to red wine. But yeah, low carb beers sound like yuck.

IPAs are overrated anyway. They were excessively hopped to preserve them, not for flavor. The guys in India preferred over-hopped beer to no beer.

Besides IPAs having carbs, hops is very estrogenic and therefor bad for weight loss.

I’m glad I started keto far away from Oregon… micro brews would be hard to give up. Chinese beer? Easy-peasy. Not even the same beverage. Wine was my sacrifice. I know it is fine for keto, but I’m not great at quantity control with wine. Gin and soda water is my go to these days.

I’ve found that 3-4 oz of a good beer satisfies me now instead of a whole 6 pack.

(TJ Borden) #10

Yeah… I’m not there yet. For a while I tried to limit it to one beer a few time a week. Instead I realized I do better to go a little nuts, but with much less frequency.

(TJ Borden) #11

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

(TJ Borden) #12

Correct. 1 for 3 so far.

Right again!!! One more and you win the prize

Ohhhhh, sorry. Wrong answer. You were so close. Better luck next time.

(Hyperbole- best thing in the universe!) #13

Nope. @SporkyDonkey got 100% on that.

(TJ Borden) #14

I’m going to have to ask the audience to please be quite.

Black Butte Porter, 1664, McMenamin’s Terminator or an occasional Rubinator. THAT is beer. IPA is notable for being better than Chinese beer.

(TJ Borden) #16

:rofl::rofl::rofl: okay, I’ll give you the black butte. I’ve never been a big fan of McMenamin’s, but it’s because they pride themselves on using the same type of yeast on EVERYTHING.

I’ll agree though, a stout is one of my favorite styles, and most of what makes up my beer cellar. My all time favorite style is Cascadian (aka Black IPA). The dark roasted malts of a stout, a lighter, more porterish body, but hopped like an IPA.

(Hyperbole- best thing in the universe!) #17

I’ll have to save my carb budget to try a Cascadian on my next visit to the States.

Omission makes a gluten free low carb beer. Not easy to find but pretty tasty, especially when you are not having the real thing.

Hi guys,

I don’t want to hijack the thread but, I have a question about alcohol.
I HAVE to go out tomorrow night with the boss and a few colleagues. There will be much alcohol consumed by all. What is my best way of navigating the night (with consuming alcohol) and not killing my weight loss too much?

If I drink, how long will it be before I start losing again?

(TJ Borden) #20

Alcohol will stall ketosis because your liver has to switch over to process it, but you can help the process by avoiding sugar. Many of the spirits themselves are zero carb; vodka, gin, bourbon, etc…

If you’re not a fan of having them neat or on the rocks, just find sugar free mixer options. My personal favorite is gin and soda.
