Carb math! Help

(Robert Byrd) #1

Can someone shed some light on the math of the carbs in these please. I thought fiber plus total sugar should equal total carbs.

Rule of thumb. If you can’t figure out the carbs, don’t eat it. Are you in Europe or North America? If you are in Europe, the ‘total’ is actually the ‘net’ carbs. No math required. If you are in N.A. then my guess about this stuff is there are carbs not included in the carb total. If you do the math: 4 grams of sugar + 7 grams of fiber = 11 total carbs. Not 8. Could be from the mushroom, maltose and/or yeast. Or?

If this stuff is a bag of some kind of chips, it’s not worth the effort to do any math.

Without answering your question - I stay away from mushrooms because shockingly they contain a lot of carbs I never expected. I always thought mushrooms were empty calories. Who knew?

Really? what mushrooms are you looking at ? Dried maybe they’ll be quite high carb but fresh they are about 0.5% carb…

A cup of fresh mushrooms has about one gram of carbs. It’s an excellent food for keto.

Did I see something wrong? A cup had about 4 carbs and I thought that was a lot.Maybe I misread.

Cup raw is 3.1 with1 g fiber so 2.1 net. A cup of mushrooms is a lot to me, even though they shrink a lot when cooked.

@Janie Yeah right? I don’t want to waste my carbs.

There are various mushrooms with different carb content. It’s not very much but if we use it as food, we need a huge amount as mushrooms are mostly water. They are similar to vegetables: I eat something nice but end up with lots of carbs even if I just taste it a bit more enthusiastically, nothing close to my desire or abilities (at last, it was the case in my past while I regularly ate such things in more than very minimal amounts). If it’s just some flavoring in my food, that’s okay.
So it’s worth for some in some form and doesn’t for others. It matters if our ideal carb intake is <10 or 40g net…
