Hi. So I’ve been on the diet since March 2018 and I was strict until I went on vacation in July. I took carb pills so I can have “cheat” days. Not going all out just breads and some candy. Anyway, does anyone have experience with the carb pills and if they actually work? What brand do you use?
Carb blocking pills
Why do you want to do that to your body? If you want to eat carbs, eat them; just be prepared for the consequences. You might be further deranging your metabolism with this artificial carb avoidance. JMHO.
I’d be very surprised, having seen previous discussion of this topic here, if anyone else has used them.
Put them in the pile with magic beans, if it was that easy nobody would be overweight. Eat the carbs, get on with it. I’d take bread over candy any day.
The theory is that “carbohydrate blockers” stop the body from breaking down complex carbs into the simple ones that the body can absorb. In practice, they do neutralize or stop the action of a great deal of the enzymes (amylases) the body uses to do that breaking-down. However - there is enough left and working that most of the complex carbs get absorbed anyhow.
The study I saw (will post a link) had people eating spaghetti, with and without carb-blockers. The “without” group didn’t absorb all the spaghetti, to begin with - on average 4.7% went through without being absorbed.
The other group that took the carb-blocker with their spaghetti didn’t absorb an average of 7% of the spaghetti. So - some effect, but only an average gain of 2.3% not being absorbed. Virtually worthless, as far as it’s intended function.
Some people like me have extreme heart palpitations from taking those, all they are is Lima beans put in a pill, just eat Lima beans and you will get the same pure lectin (amylase carb blocking) effect…lol
Here is what’s in sugar blockers:
”…Sugar blockers utilize the ingredients Chromium and Gymnema Sylvestre. Chromium is a mineral, found in many different foods and is thought to help your cells absorb blood sugar, which in turn will reduce cravings. However, Gymnema Sylvestre is the most promising of the two sugar blocking ingredients. …” …More
I’ve got some amazingly, awesome waterfront property in Arizona for sale if you’re interested.
I understand completely what you’re saying.
As for waterfront property in Arizona, my step son and his wife took me and my wife to Lake Pleasant a few years ago, not that far north of Phoenix. Really nice place. Saw a ghost town that had a little stream running by. Although water is in short supply, there are some bits of it here and there. The market garden and orchard just outside of Phoenix floored me the first time I saw it. Had no idea it could be done there.
Just conversation, off topic…
And I can give you a line on a bridge that will generate some very hefty toll action. . . .
Look, I was here first, right? So you can go and take a long walk off my very very short bridge.
I suppose this goes against the OP’s question, but I love the simplicity of living a LCHF way of eating. Why add complexity with
snake oil, er, I mean,
“carb blockers?”
Wait . . . you mean it’s not more fun to eat crap and take pills? Now you tell me!
