Has anyone tried carb blockers? Pills or powwders? Do they work at all? It seems to me that if they do what they say they do, that they could be used as a tool in certain situations. Perhaps they could help get you into ketosis? or used in an emergency like going to a friend’s party or some event where your intake of carbs is bound to be over your limit? Could they save you from being kicked out of ketosis?
Has anyone had any experience with these? If so, are there any brands that are better than others? Any experience or opinions on this subject are welcome. Thanks
Carb blockers. Do they work?
Carb blocking pills
There are prescription medications for diabetics such as acarbose that block carb absorption. Those have been extensively tested and it seems reasonable to believe they work, at least for most people. But the side effects can be ugly so it strikes me as more risky to eat the carbs and block their digestion with a drug than to simply restrict the amount of carbs one eats in the first place.
OR just don’t eat the carbs. Ketosis happens in the presence of a lack of carbs. That’s it.
That was exactly what I was about to say as well do I qualify for the “smartass” tag too please?
I’d rather take the carb hit and then get back on the horse than take a bloat and gas inducing supplement. That may or may not do anything at all.
But all jokes aside, we all know that unluwe prepared the meal there is no 100% guarantee that it will be Ketogenic. There can be sneaky carbs in restaurant sauces, soups, stews etc.
Sometimes it can be neuro kick out of ketosis and the next day u feel lethargic, shaky and generally crappy. High price for a tasty meal that wasn’t even an intentional cheat but simply a mistake. In this case it could be useful to have an “emergency turn back the carb/time” pill.
OTOH l see a huge danger of ppl simply abuse using them instead of simply learning to stay away from carbs once and for all.
Just my 2 cents
I just don’t think it’s a good idea to try to fool our bodies.
I don’t do artificial sweeteners. If I need something sweet, dark chocolate it is.
If I overdo carbs, I fast the next day to fix it.
I don’t use hormonal birth control.
I wouldn’t use carb blockers.
Not sure this an “emergency” as such, given the normal usage of the word.
