Can't get into ketosis...need some advice

(Ashley) #1

Hello Keto-ers

I need some help… I have been following keto for a month and cannot get over .6-.8 (one day I was 1.2 whippie lol). I have tried to lower my carb intake…lowering protien no luck at all. Any advise will be GREATLY appreciated.

I started with under 20 carbs, 90 protien and 114 gr of fat.
Moved it down to 15 carbs, 80, and 114
Now down to 10 carbs, 75 grams of protein and 114 fat.

I am staying with in the approved Keto foods. Some background I have had hypothyroidism for over 20 years and acid reflux for 10. Not sure if any of those conditions would inhibit me from getting into Ketosis.

A few things I am stink at . Exercise, enough water consumption but aside from that I have been super trying just get Uber frustrated.

Thanks guys and gals

It has taken me six months to get to 1.6. Do not worry, it will happen, just keep the carbs under 20.

As ever, Regina is correct.

Eat under 20g carbs, eat enough food/calories to keep your metabolic rate up and ticking along, profit.

Ketosis-number bragging rights can wait, just enjoy the actual benefits along the way

Also, consider genetics - some people enter ketosis easier than others. 0.6 to 0.8 is still ketosis. 1.2 is great. So just keep checking in with questions, and don’t stress.

Also - water and salt is key. I drink ten glasses a day. because I love it. I also salt my food, and sometimes just eat salt cause I like it. You need more salt to make the switch from sugar burning to fat burning.

Thanks a mill! I will add more salt and I definitely need to drink more water.

Those numbers are fine, you don’t need to get them higher. Higher ketone levels do not mean better results.

You are in ketosis. Those numbers are fine.

My blood ketones are rarely over 1.0, and I’ve been low carb for almost 5 years, keto for a lot of that.

I guess I though I was not or barely in ketosis. I love keto I feel awesome but I assumed I wasn’t in because I have not lost one ounce. And I know that shouldn’t be the focus but I was hoping that some weight would fall off. I am trying not to make it about weight loss bit with 40 lbs to lose I was hoping keto would help me lose.

Give it time. If you’re feeling good then you’re on the right path and the weight loss will follow. Sometimes the body just needs a bit of time to heal before it can start burning the fat.

And the scale sucks for determining whether you’ve lost weight. This past several weeks for me, I needed to put my belts on one hole that makes my belt smaller, but the scale weight went UP. And I’ve had this happen multiple times, so many that I went and got DEXA scans (dual energy x-ray absorptiometry). Those helped me realize that over the course of a year (I’ve been low carb for almost 5 years), I had about a 9 pound swing, but I gained 3.3 pounds of muscle and lost 5.4 pounds of muscle, so a scale weight loss of 2 pounds.

It took me about 1.5 years to lose 30 pounds, then added intermittent and longer term fasting allowed me to lose another 20 pounds.
