I’m on a fence here and it’s getting uncomfortable. On one hand, we all know keto mostly equals good, we have plenty of science and articles. But, it’s starting to bother me seeing people posting symptom x and being told it’s candida related with x symptom proving that to be the case. Candida feels like a horoscope reading with such vague inputs as to be relatable to anyone. You have a headache? Candida. White tongue? Candida. Rash? Candida. Your dog started peeing in the house? Candida. When, the symptoms could be caused by a million different things.
Symptoms when starting or new to keto tend to be found as an electrolyte imbalance, low fat intake, improper restriction, higher carbs than they thought or a mix. Instead of suggesting changes to these things or hacking into the stats, I see what I consider a lazy diagnosis of candida or candida die off with some suggestion to do x thing or a cleanse or this and that. And it all feels very much like a horoscope reading in a paper. I feel it does an extreme disservice to people in this forum, especially the newer people.
We know Candida exists on and in the body and that it can present itself as things like oral thrush (this causes a white tongue and sometimes white in the mouth but it’s not just a basic white tongue, it’s a very obvious difference.), vaginal yeast infections are another thing.
So, I’m now asking for the science that shows what candida is capable of in someone who isn’t immunocompromised and that shows it being cured. Not articles written on a website (unless those articles cite sources.) Otherwise, I’m asking that we quit diagnosing people with candida or candida die off just because they have a headache or white tongue. I ask that we instead spend real time trying to help people with multiple solutions to get them through their symptom x.
I hope this topic can be a repository for good candida studies that people can read and share. Thanks.
