Canadian Writer and Mom Gone Keto

(Kimberley Falk) #1

Hi everyone. Found this forum when I was Googling all my pressing Keto questions. I’ve been writing Keto articles for weeks and have persuaded myself into taking a shot and seeing if I can finally lose some weight and my need to console myself with carbs. I am a single mom in Ontario.

I’ve been Keto for three days now, didn’t get the keto flu (is that normal? Thought maybe I hadn’t hit ketosis yet but my weight tells a different story - I have some ketosis strips coming via Amazon by Thursday and then I will have to learn how to track that stuff) but I have been urinating like crazy! And, I’ve already lost 6 pounds! I have gotten some cravings for cookies at night - usually because it’s what I’m used to eating, but I’ve filled the void with polish sausage haha.

Can’t wait to get chatting and seeing my results and getting motivated by all yours!

I really never got the “flu” either.
Peed a lot, undoubtedly dumped a lot of electrolytes, but I was getting enough minerals in my diet, apparently.

Good luck on your journey!

Welcome. I didn’t get the keto flu, I did have really bad carb withdrawals a few days in my second week. There were some days I just didn’t go into the kitchen bad. I think that following the advice on the forum helped me to avoid it.

Good luck during your first couple of weeks, this is a great place to come for support, just reading the before and after thread helped me a lot in the beginning.

Some don’t get carb withdrawal (Keto Flu) and the reason they usually do is because they didn’t increase their salt and water intakes. I had some light headness when I started but drinking 64 oz (2 liters) of water per day and getting in 2 teaspoons of salt made it go away.

The strips are not the most reliable, but they are usually ok for saying yes you are in or no you are not. The best way you can tell is if you have all day energy and your cravings for carbs have diminished or have entirely disappeared.

Anyway, welcome and glad to see you’ve joined the Keto nation.
