Is it possible to over do it on fats ? Also what would people class as good sources of fats ? I have been reading to not stress over my macros and just keep carbs under 20g daily. In my 5th week now.
Can you have too much fat?
Another way to look at it is to swap out your carbs for fats…
And yes one can. You will feel overfull, or you won’t lose weight.
Healthy fats include EVOO (olive oil), olives, ghee, butter (organic if possible), bacon grease, tallow, duck fat etc.
I am sure you could find much better resources searching in the search bar within categories. There is an awesome food section here… enjoy browsing!
It’s possible to overdo anything, including water and oxygen.
Overdoing fats, or at least saturated (not sure about others) while you don’t have something else with it like a bunch of sugar and salt (makes it highly palatable), is rather difficult for many people (I don’t rule out that some set of people out there don’t have anything to trigger them to stop or puke if they over eat fat).
Possible? Yes. Likely? I doubt it, personally.
Yes, it is. I’ve seen several people complain about not losing weight while having fat bombs for dessert every night. If you want your body to use body fat for energy, you still have to find a way to have a small deficit.
Yes, this is a good approach if you are new to keto. As you get more experienced, you can then start working on the nuances around protein and fat balance. To start with, just keep your carbs really low. That’s 80% of the keto guidelines.
Can you eat too much fat? Absolutely! The guideline is to eat fat to satiety, meaning eat fat until you are comfortably full. If you stuff your self full of fat until you are sick, you have eaten too much fat.
However, my experience is this: once you are comfortably full, it becomes harder and harder to eat more fat. I often wander into the kitchen thinking I am hungry, and I see some pork belly in the fridge: I ask myself, ok, if I am truly hungry, this would be appealing, but it is not. Therefore, it is the carb cravings talking, I am not really hungry.
Many things are possible but it’s hard to have too much fat… if you’re not eating carbs.
Carbs make you hungrier.
Fats make you full.
I tried and managed to gain weight on Keto (on purpose) but it was hard … I had to eat well beyond being full to do it. And I think I cheated by upping my proteins just to get myself to eat enough fat to do it. Eating excess protein made me hungry again so I could eat more fat…
Why did I do it? Partly to experiment and find my own limits. It was an uncomfortable experience - so while it is possible, your body will be telling you to stop.
Certainly. If you stop being hungry, but continue to eat, that’s too much. If you start feeling a bit queasy or even nauseated, definitely too much.
