So…I have been keto for about 2.5 months; it took me a while to understand my macros and what this is all about. My co worker has been keto for almost 3 years and has helped me in this journey. I woke up the other morning and tested my ketones (blood) and they were .1!!! I was so upset. The only thing different that I have done is that I started drinking Zevia. But I felt like my brain was on fire! I was so productive and efficient. I felt amazing. I am also about to start my cycle so maybe my hormones have something to do with it. Has anyone had a similar experience? Needless to say I am doing 0-10 grams of net carbs for a while to see how it goes.
Can low ketone readings mean that I am using them more efficiently; help!
It can do yes, if you’re adapted. How do you feel?
Things can go a bit screwy at that time of month.
My co worker thinks I am fat adapted already. Like I said, the first month or so of switching my lifestyle to keto was really tough. It was not so much about carbs as it was about high protein. So I feel for about two months OI have been doing this “right”. Yesterday was THE LOWEST reading I have had but I felt really good. Today, 12 hours into my fast this morning they were .3… I feel more run down and I did not get enough sleep. I guess it is my hormones…I am still going to limit my carb intake to under 10 net for now and see how it goes.
I would give it time for your cycle to pass then see how things are. If you feel great then that’s a good indicator of you being adapted, but that monthly thing does make waves for us ladies.
I’m pretty sure that I’m keto adapted, having spent most of the last 4 months doing EF. I measure my blood ketones every day and have not noticed any decline based on time (there are fluctuations based on other variables). I do not trend less now vs when I started. Maybe that will change as time goes on, but it hasn’t happened so far.
I do IF and fast for anywhere from 16-20 hours a day. It must be my hormones and cycle because later that day they were at .7. So I think it was a weird blip.
